I was juuuuuust under the skill level needed to make the last speech check of the game for the ending I wanted, which obviously meant I had to pause the confrontation and try to equip/eat as many Persuasion-boosting objects as possible to get me over the threshold.

To be fair, if I was having a conversation with someone and they started simultaneously chugging coffee and whiskey, I would probably hear them out too.
