Re: Game Brainstorming General Helpthread: techno babble aho
Now I haven't read through this whole thread and don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I had an idea for a horror game, or just a scary section in a video game. Not zombies or blood on the walls, no no, people know that's just fake. Jump scares are just stupid. What I want to scare people in a game, is the fear that all the time they've spent playing was meaningless, that the object they spent $50 on broke. Maybe they go to a "special" save point, once it's done saving, it will make it appear like the file has been deleted (it will still be there, just won't look like it) or during the middle when it says "Don't turn off the power", make the screen/sound look like it's majorly glitching out. Or put a room that looks like it has no exit (it does) but then an autosave happens. Random encounters with no enemies, NPC's speaking game code that extends out dialogue boxes, etc.
I originally got the idea when I was playing Kotor two, and the game started glitching out in Nar Shadaa or whatever it's called. I kept fearing the game would stop working, or I'd be stuck forever when a plot flag didn't activate. Every now and then, even if doing nothing, EVEN AFTER LEAVING GLITCHY NAR SHADAA, it would occasionally make that one creepy sound, even when I was doing nothing. THAT is the fear I want in a horror game/horror section of a non-horror game.

I'm sure lots of people think this, but I really want to see more 3D games with at least some limited form of flight.
Re: Game Brainstorming General Helpthread: techno babble aho
The thing is that flight is extremely difficult to balance without making it a major game mechanic, and sometimes difficult to control besides.
Super Mario Galaxy had a pretty good flight power up... but the fact it was only usable on the observatory and in one galaxy made it a letdown.

@Guy: Having a game based around glitches and various bugs actaully sounds hella nifty

Vrom, regarding your stuff in General Gabbin':
Transmogrification for everything. I want to be a battle-mage, daisies it! None of these silly dresses or robes or what-have-you, I want to burn my foes in FULL FUCKING PLATE
But then make like a STR requirement so you can't just roll a mage and then automatically herp the derp into Battle Mage status. You have to work for it.

Cutting things close now, off to the faire I goooooooo!
I was planning on having 2 classifications of armor based on roles (melee/tank/ranged like a hunter physical stats & damage/healing caster spell stats) and three tiers of armor (cloth, leather, metal) and everyone can equip what they want and when they want it, but if you aren't supposed to wear metal armor you'd have a movement penalty, and if you CAN wear metal and are wearing cloth you would move faster, but would have like a health penalty or have a good chance of being stunned if hit or something.
So yeah, I WANT people to be able to wear anything, it's just that I want there to be some down sides to it if you aren't supposed to.
I told Sol about this idea for a warrior class change already, but I want to know what everyone else thinks of this...
You get an extra equipment slot specifically for 2handed weapons, and what you have equipped will be a combat pet that'll float around and protect you and fight for you and stuff.
the only things I've seen come close to this is the WoW Death Knight ability Dancing Rune Weapon, many enemies from games who'd have their weapon suddenly floating about (mostly Darth Traya), and Kit Ballard from Blade Kitten.
So yeah... a warrior that has a floating weapon for a guardian pet thing, good idea or not?

MUST. SCRUB. BODY. *shudder*
OH JEEZ!
I JUST HAD MY MOST DISGUSTING YET GREAT IDEA FOR A STRATEGY GAME YET.
You play a colony of parasitic creatures that are living on people's bodies.
Like you have lice for workers that chop down lumber (and by lumber I mean hair) and leeches that suck up blood pools for resources.
And you'd have units like worms that burrow in the ground (skin) and wait for enemies to pass by to ambush.
And sometimes you'll have area hazards akin to bad weather which would be stuff like combs and scratching hands and stuff that'd greatly harm or affect your units.
As heebily jeebily as this idea is, I'd like your opinions on this thing.
Now if you'll excuse me, I must go and take a long shower...

Re: Game Brainstorming General Helpthread: techno babble aho
That could be fun, if a little odd and gross... Part of the strategy could be gathering resources in a way that prevents the human from realizing there's a problem, thus avoiding bad effects. What sort of strategy game would this be, by the way? An RTS, with an opponent on the same human? Are you just trying to survive for as long as possible? In any case I imagine it would be an interesting game to play, but there probably would be a lot of people turned off by the premise.
Anyway, someone tell me if this idea is silly or whatever
I want to create a unique sort of match X puzzle game. I figure the way I'd try to make it unique is by having it be an RPG with the actual matching as the game's battle system. As an RPG, it would also have stuff like stats and different skills, as well as a focus on story and characters. But what would make this puzzle game really unique is that
are you ready for this?
IT'S NOT BEJEWELED!
or Puzzle Bobble
The way I imagine the actual matching is that you have a 3-D pit, and you control a character inside the pit. They carry pieces of two or more colored blocks and try to set them down on the tiles to match 4 (Maybe 5?) or more blocks together. Think Puyo Pop, but you walk across the grid to set pieces down, and the grid is 3-D.
I wonder if i'm like the first person to use the save post function.

I have an idea for a shooter that's a mix of BF3/Tribes/Halo that I'll type down when I can be arsed to.
Am I the only one who constantly plays with numbers when thinking of game ideas? I don't think it'd be possible for me to come up with a game idea that doesn't include fiddling with percents and endless amounts of statistics.

Thinking of porting some TF2 guns into Crysis with some updated textures.
Also thinking of making a Kid-friendly/Nerf gun mod for said Crysis.

Yeah it'd be pretty gross... I guess I'd have to have it bundled with that other RTS game idea I have, the cavemen one...scebboaliwiw wrote:That could be fun, if a little odd and gross... Huh... I didn't think of that part... GOOD IDEA! Thank you!scebboaliwiw wrote:Part of the strategy could be gathering resources in a way that prevents the human from realizing there's a problem, thus avoiding bad effects.
RTS sounds best, and yeah enemies on the human. I guess there could be single player "survival" maps & missions based around how long you can last... never really thought about it that much...scebboaliwiw wrote:What sort of strategy game would this be, by the way? Nope.Mete wrote:Am I the only one who constantly plays with numbers when thinking of game ideas?
I'm trying to balance 6 1st tier, 18 2nd tier, and 54 3rd tier classes for my mondo game idea, and each class brings a different thing to the table. THE NUMBERS I HAVE TO DO ARE GETTING INSANE!
Niiice. I'd LOVE to play a nerf mod for ANY FPS!saximaphone wrote:Thinking of porting some TF2 guns into Crysis with some updated textures.

Sounds like it'd be a better version of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlordsscebboaliwiw wrote: Anyway, someone tell me if this idea is silly or whatever

I can model the guns and a few maps to use them on, but I need my friend to animate the guns and port them because MAYA CAN'T DO THAT.Vrominelli wrote:Niiice. I'd LOVE to play a nerf mod for ANY FPS!

Then I gotta get him to code the daisies things.
Pretty much, I'd be doing the modelling and stat ideas whilst he does all the tech work.

Yeah... daisies stolen ideas...Sol Reaper wrote: Sounds like it'd be a better version of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
But the thing is that I really want the game to actually seem like a RPG with a puzzle game as its battle system, rather than just a puzzle game with an RPG "feel" added on. So there would be a somewhat open overworld the player actually traverses, and puzzles of the other variety like actual block puzzles in certain places. Something to make the game equal parts RPG and puzzle game.
