The North American Aion is going Truly Free to play in Spring Here's the main webpage
They're starting a 2-week free reactivation for old accounts that don't have a active subscription and also letting people make new trial accounts that let you go all the way to lvl 40.
I'm interested in going back, but I'm probably just gonna let my sister play my account instead.

Re: Aion going F2P in Spring
level 40? that's pretty high
[5:06:23 PM] Yeili: this is kind of cool, i've beaten a murderer in mario party.

Re: Aion going F2P in Spring
Yeah, with the new expansion coming out they're raising the lvl cap to 60 but it's not that hard to get up there if you're already 40
Re: Aion going F2P in Spring
Played it when it launched, it played like wow with a worse grind than vanilla.
I'd like to see if and how they've changed it since then.

Re: Aion going F2P in Spring
Words cannot accurately describe how much I hate this game. The amount of sheer effort that it demands just to give you a chance to get something you want is ridiculous. I'm not even talking about the horrible grinds where you consider yourself lucky to have progressed halfway to the next level before running out of quests, either. The drop rates on everything you need are so low that you could spend months trying for a single item. The PvP currency system is nothing short of cruel, punishing you with worse rewards and greater losses as you make progress, and while these rewards are split among everyone who has killed you, you still lose the same amount for getting mercilessly slaughtered by gangs of all sizes. I don't know if the expansion improved anything, but the flight combat the game advertised amounted to "You can only fly at all in PvP zones and certain key abilities of yours won't work while airborne".
I'm sorry if you guys actually enjoy the game, but there was no fun in it for me outside of Rifting and Dredgion runs, both of which were completely situational events that one could spend hours waiting for and still accomplish nothing. In hindsight, that last part accurately describes much of how I felt about the game as a whole. Hours of tedium, no solid promise of a reward.

Ignorance is not the same as innocence.

oh well the story and lore sounded cool. Bummer the gameplay lets it down
