We can't talk about PlanetSide 2?
Re: We can't talk about PlanetSide 2?
So do you wander around the world (lots of boring sailing, ha ha) or do you teleport to a different continent (read: switch stages like any other game)?
Since this is garbled English, please refer to the brutal attack of confusion.

They are NOTHING like TF2's control points. To capture a control point in TF2, all you do is stand on it for a couple seconds.... to capture a base in PlanetSide, you have to fight your way to the control center, have a hacker bypass security systems, and defend it until that hack is complete(takes 15 minutes on most bases, some bases have a "flag" unit that becomes active that can be transported to one of your own bases to instantly complete it)... which takes a hell of a lot longer than standing on a silly little circle for 5 seconds.Galaxy Man wrote:so yeah they're all just different maps that they call continents with different areas to fight on that progress as you win
pretty much exactly like team fortress 2's control points then
what is this game doing that's different other than a scale that makes no sense and matters exactly zero
seriously this is hilarious how much you think this is some sort of godsend
PlanetSide isn't just about scale, it's also about actual warfare.
You need to teleport through the warp gates, or teleport to your home base and take a dropship.YCobb wrote:So do you wander around the world (lots of boring sailing, ha ha) or do you teleport to a different continent (read: switch stages like any other game)?

To capture a point in TF2, you have to START fighting your way to it, actively stopping the other team from stopping YOU, and then if the map is right, continue pushing to the next control point while the other team tries to take them back/take yours. All while actively fighting and having to play an almost literal tug of war. Some versions are offense/defense, where one team has all the control points and the other tries to take them. The classes are all set up much like Rock Paper Scissors, so major strategy is needed in some situations.GarthKoopa wrote:They are NOTHING like TF2's control points. See, I can make things complicated also! Looks also like it's more complex and more strategic. Huh.
so is every cawadoodyPlanetSide isn't just about scale, it's also about actual warfare.

it's funny how everything "original" it does is pretty much a slightly tweaked and more boring thing than less boring things that you're saying it's better than.

I'm assuming you're all arguing like children over Planetside being a copy-cat game. Planetside predated TF2 and Call of Duty and it was an MMO, and it was one of the first large scale FPS games. It was WAY more than any shooter's player count. Those were its draws, scale and MMO and one of the first of its kind.
But who thinks anymore.

Re: We can't talk about PlanetSide 2?
One more. Just because PlanetSide pioneered all this stuff doesn't mean that other games aren't doing it better now. That's like people clinging to the original Halo multiplayer and refusing to even try newer shooters.
Re: We can't talk about PlanetSide 2?
We were hardly calling it a copy; we were pointing out that most of its 'unique' points aren't unique at all anymore.
And this isn't meant to be continuing the debate, rather, it's a point of curiosity to me: Is this the same sort of thing as Tribes? I remember hearing about it being an FPS MMO as well, and I've heard some great things about it.

I am not against you all debating about the game, but how you're doing it. After awhile you both are ust arguing the same points but adding insults, which I'm not cool with.Galaxy Man wrote:pretty much arguing because it 1) sounds boring as fuck 2) this guy is hilariousThe Big Cheese wrote:I'm assuming you're all arguing like children over Planetside being a copy-cat game. It seems odd to me that noone in these 4 pages has named the biggest appeal to a continous universe to kill each other in (or maybe I've missed it):
- your actions have consequences
- as a result, there's the possibility of long term goals.
