Re: War of the Elements
"'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all,'" Grey quoted. "But frankly I believe that's a lot of bullshit. Either way you're unhappy." She didn't mean to imply that she was unhappy with the way things were. If someone came along, someone she could actually trust, then good for them. If not, she'd just keep doing things her way as usual. Hers was a mostly carefree existance. Really, this was the most she'd ever talked about herself to someone other than Jane.
Don't grow attached. He is the type who will leave the moment someone offers him a higher salary.
I know that. I don't grow attached. You've been unusually quiet.
A chuckle that echoed through her mind.
I thought I would let you have your fun, girl child. Now, if you don't mind...
Her limbs seized up, her gaze turned momentarily blank, staring straight forward, unseeing. Then her pupils dilated, and jerkily she tugged hard on the reins. Her horse reared up, neighing, and she let go and tumbled down to the ground. As she hit the ground, she returned to normal, and let out a cry more from surprise than pain. She sat up, and exploded in anger.
"What the flying fuck!? The fuck was that!? You-- Oh. Um." She noticed Garrett staring at her. "Bastard," she muttered quietly so Garrett wouldn't hear it and think she was accusing him. How the hell was she supposed to explain that?

Re: War of the Elements
Name:Rick Flores
Element: Wind
Age:17
Appearance: Tall, wiry, and lanky. He has shoulder length purple hair, and wears a black polyester button up shirt, opened, over top of a simple brown T-shirt. He wears a pair of jeans, and black, lightweight shoes adorn his feet. His eyes are hazel, and very penetrating and analytical.
Personality: Highly intelligent and calculating, and somewhat short on words. He thinks that speaking when you could be planning is a bit of a pain.
Biography: Honestly... he lived a very normal life for his country, except for excessive training due to strong powers. He went to school, made friends, failed to make girlfriends, and generally did well.
Prodigy?: Nope. Can't be. : D
Other: He generally uses his powers to enhance his physical abilities, such as almost entirely negating wind resistance, and giving himself a tailwind for whatever he does, to boost his speed and strength, or creating a compressed air explosion at his feet to jump high into the air. Most people wouldn't think of these, but he's very creative.

((Oh, and one thing about Galevonia: All of the natives have wild colored hair, totally unnatural hair colors and such. For example, Hal's hair color is red (not ginger, like this red and Adam's hair is dark blue.) Just keep that in mind if you are making a Galevonian or a wind user.))

Re: War of the Elements
Garrett turned around when he heard Greylin's horse whinny. He was just in time to watch her fall to the ground and begin yelling into blank space. Pips jumped off the horse and scrambled over to the girl with a bemused meow.
Garrett halted his horse and dismounted with a curious mutter. He walked over to where Greylin was and looked down at her for a few seconds before asking, "Are you all right?"
He extended his hand and offered it to Greylin. "That was a nasty fall. What happened?"

The capital of Galevonia, Jeharin. An inn near the outskirts. This is where we come across Rick, sitting in the Inn's tavern in a corner, reading a rather thick book on the properties of wind itself, and how it can be used to manipulate things. He took a sip of wine, very sour, just as he liked it, and continued to read. He had been evacuated to the capital after Humidian was destroyed, and was told he would apparently be meeting with the prodigy of their country. For now, he simply enjoyed the free food and lodging.

Re: War of the Elements
She took the offered hand, pulling herself back up the her feet. Her back stung, but more bruised than that was her pride. What did you intend to do with that little stunt? She asked angrily, sending the thought into empty space. The lack of response frustrated her even more. So she was getting the silent treatment. So be it.
To her disgust, her markings still glowed faintly, as if the sunlight bounced directly off of them. "I'm fine," she growled as she felt around her back. Her fingers came away with a small touch of blood, but when she checked again she found it was just a small scrape. "I think my horse saw a snake or something," she explained. Behind her back, her fingers twitched, and the shadows moved behind Garrett, solidifying into something vaguely snake-shaped. It slowly slithered into the bushes as she continued pretending to check for injuries. "Oh. I see it now." She sent it farther into the bushes until only the tail poked out, making sure he couldn't tell if it was merely a dark-colored snake or indeed shadow magic being used. As soon as he turned to look, she sent it slithering all the way, disappearing out of sight. Then she relaxed her hand, letting it dissipate. The glow around her tattoos surged, then disappeared completely.
Perhaps she was acting strangely and out of character. She couldn't help it. The fact that it could take control like that, could potentially get her killed... the thought made her shudder. Grey stretched nonchalantly and made her way back to where her horse stood, having recovered from its fright.

Re: War of the Elements
Garrett saw something in the bushes that looked like a snake, but he wasn't sure. He thought he could sense a faint amount of shadow magic hanging in the air--it was hard to tell, though. He wasn't a very good sensor. He looked back at Greylin, who had seated herself back on her horse and was waiting expectantly.
Garrett gave her a suspicious look. Her horse didn't seem too nervous, despite having supposedly seen a snake just moments prior. And the way it was holding its' head kept the reigns loose...as if they had been yanked recently.
His eyes narrowed. There was something going on here, and he didn't like it when he wasn't in on something. But he decided not to press the issue. He returned to his horse and put Pips on before climbing into the saddle himself. "Well, if you believe you can continue, we will. As I have previously stated, we may be able to purchase supplies at the village up ahead. If we pick up our pace, we might make it there before evening falls."
He turned back to the road and tapped his horses' flank to continue moving. "Lousy secretive women..." He mumbled sourly. Greylin wouldn't hear him, but it felt good to have something to complain about. Yet...this time around he simply didn't feel satisfied. Complaining about a secret felt really hollow when he thought of all his secrets, so he silenced himself and focused on the road ahead.

Karin returned home, where she lived alone, and began packing a few sets of clothes. She slipped on a black skirt over her shorts and pulled out her traveling bag. She stuffed a pair of clothes into it quickly and opened her top drawer to find her change purse. She placed it carefully in her bag under her clothes and moved through her halls to her kitchen where she packed a light lunch for the trip. She took a step outside of her home, looked back, and took a rather large sigh. She rubbed off this feeling and moved out.
She headed to the outskirts of town and began forming a cart out of the ground. She cracked the ice and pulled a chunk large enough for her to ride in up. She flowed her arms up and down, weaving through, cutting the ice to create a hollow indent for her to ride in. During this she thought to herself, about her parents and why she declined their offer to stay with them. After she met her prodigy friends, she wanted nothing else to do with them. They had tried tainting her with their hatred, their evil, their prejudice towards anyone that couldn't manipulate ice. Most of the Daringlinians believed themselves to be the master race, superior in every way. She came out of her thoughts as a man approached her. He offered to give her a push and she accepted with a light curtsy. As she took her seat she returned to her thoughts of her parents. The boy pushed with great force and off she went. Eventually she got bored of thinking about her parents and focused into making the craft go much faster. She looked to her side and saw the city of Quardine. The people of Quardine looked pop flyin' going through their lives with one another, but she knew if even a Galevonian were to enter their village, all peace would be lost there.
A few hours passed and she had arrived at Miami. She immediately pushed forward and headed for the docks. When she arrived at the docks she pulled out a coin purse and bought a ticket to Galevonia.
The ships in Daringloo were quite an interesting site. They were made of solid ice and kept cool by the on deck staff and taking into account the fact that the Daringloo surrounding ocean was frozen, they had to be. Starting in port the ships were flat and then the shipmates would change the shape of the ship to a sharper bend, one of a natural ship.
The ship left port and Karin was off. She had no idea of what had just happened in Daringloo or what it would cause.

Re: War of the Elements
Had the men really thought they had a chance? The Lord of the Silent Forest, Herald of the Eternal Root, was not something so easily stopped by a bird of wood and metal. Cannonfire glanced off his body, the outer scales aged and petrified like ancient redwood. Fire found no hold on him, for the Herald was as green as new saplings. He had ruled the skies of Kudzu long before that name had even been given. Not even the Immortal Root was as old as he.
The Herald spiraled and slithered through the air like water, snatching men from the deck of the ship and hurling them aside. They were nourishment for the creatures of the forest. He wouldn't dirty himself by gorging on their blood.
He could have ended this easily, as he'd done many times. Come from beneath, coil around the ship, and crush it with his might. The wreckage would fall to the ground and all would know of his dominance. But this time, the Immortal Root stayed his wrath. There was a mage on board, though not one of nature. He was of the flame. And he was going to be the sole survivor.
The Herald slipped beneath the ship, listening to the humans scurrying within. He arched his back and whipped his body into the bulwark. The bottom of the ship exploded at his touch and many humans fell screaming.
"Mage of the Flame," said the Herald. "Reveal yourself to me. Else I hurl you and this ship from my domain. Trespassers, give me the mage and I will permit this ship and all on it to escape my wrath. You have one minute, so says the Herald of the Immortal Root!"

Alexander had figured that having Hermes to travel with would make him get where he needed to go quicker and more easily, but he had no idea just how big a difference. Back in one of the local fire villages, he'd stolen a horse from a Magmasan citizen and, after what felt like twice the time it would take Hermes to get there, he'd made it into Layna's peak. despite the fact that the Grand Templar was about to be held hostage, everything looked pretty normal. He rode the not-so-noble steed back to his home, he'd make a trip to the village later once the negotiations were over.
Alexander may have been late, but not too late. It wasn't until he saw Hermes outside the palace that he began to panic. He instructed a nearby guard that he was to take Hermes back to his house as well, removing any possible modes of transportation for Marcus's getaway. Alexander began to run through the hallways of the castle. If he hurried, maybe this war of fire and lightning could still end before anything too catastrophic happened.

He seemed suspicious. She couldn't blame him. She'd done what she could to cover up the lie, but she'd had very little time to come up with it. The fact that she was still shaken up from the incident didn't help either. "Right, let's go." She spurred her horse onward, gently, nervous that she'd somehow startle it again.
A reminder. She kept her face carefully blank as the scene played across her mind in the blink of an eye. It didn't want her to forget. Like she could ever forget. But it insisted its chattiness was because, quite often, people would forget. Such pressure was hell on the mind. She'd gotten used to it after a little while, but taking control of her body was new. It's part of the deal... It teasingly reminded her. You, on the run, a mere child. A dark alleyway. A promise.
daisies you, I know!
It was getting harder and harder to keep this secret. Absentmindedly, she reached around and touched Scion on her back. To be rid of it forever, no, that simply would not do. But if people found out, it'd be disastrous. Maybe she should tell Jane... no. Definitely not Jane. You couldn't trust the woman as far as you could throw her, and the old woman wasn't exactly aerodynamic. The ghost of a smile spread across her face. There, something to laugh at. The world didn't have to be all weapons, violence, and evil secrets.
She rode without saying anything until they reached the village.

Re: War of the Elements
(Hey, Madican. Almost everyone on the ship is a flame mage. Miji is the LEAST fire oriented. Also, I would like to remind you that these people knew what they were getting into.)
Miji's heart was racing. What did it want with him? Should he give himself in, and leave Magmasa and Cairns to tear each other apart? His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the captain shouting at the top of his lungs. "OH NO YOU DON'T!" Richard shouted, running for the edge of the ship. He made a great leap for the beast, charging up all his power. The least he would do would be to give Miji a chance to escape, and complete his mission.
He impacted with the monster, releasing most of his power upon impact, sending it flying downwards, towards the forest. He didn't have enough energy to get back up to the ship, so he fell down to the forest. He had a rough landing on the ground, somewhere near where the beast landed. He had a full energy potion, that he immediately chugged half of, recharging his energy. He looked around for the monster, hoping to finish it off while it was weak.
Meanwhile, the ship was in ruins, and quickly losing altitude. Miji had collected himself, and found some parachutes. Any surviving crew members grabbed a parachute, along with Miji, and they all descended to the forest below. They were close to the iron path, they just had to survive long enough to get there.
(The beast shouldn't be able to get up in the sky for a few moments, leaving Richard plenty of time to find it. Richard has most of his energy left, and will go after the beast immediately, although he shouldn't be able to last more than a minute against it. But remember, this is a powerful fire mage running on pure adrenaline. He should be able to at least hold his ground. And thus, I leave the battle to you, Madican.)

Re: War of the Elements
The Herald was knocked from the sky in a surprise attack, but if the captain thought he was strong enough to do more than inconvenience him when he was under the Immortal Root's protection, he was dead wrong. Emphasis on the first part.
The Herald did not touch down to the ground, instead wrapping himself around the closest tree. Every tree was a piece of the Immortal Root, and it served as its eyes while the beasts were its hands. But the Herald was more, he was the body. And so the forest obeyed him.
He sank into a trunk wide enough that ten men holding hands would not be enough to encompass it. It swam upward through the tree, pulling nutrients from its abundant stores to repair what nicks and scorch marks there were on it. The captain wished to die with honor? He had lost that right the moment he had thought to challenge the Herald. He was the body, the forest the eyes, and the beasts the hands. The Herald had sunk the ship, he would let the others do their task and thin the crew. If they made it to the Path, they were lucky. Only the scholar had passage.
The Mimisnake behind the captain moved without a sound, perfectly blended into its surroundings. It watched the captain, hyped up on adrenaline, turn this way and that in an attempt to find the Herald. As the minutes passed, his adrenaline turned off. Nothing was attacking him, he had heard the sound of the ship falling, and the sky wasn't even visible through the thick branches.
He was alone in the Silent Forest. But he was alive. Perhaps he could make his way to the Iron Path? He had been following it from the sky in case the order to abandon ship had needed to be given out. It looked like the animals had left to area when the Herald made his appearance, maybe he could get out of this intact.
He turned away and the Mimisnake struck from behind like lightning, snapping the captain's spine in two with a single bite. It then hurled the body at the base of the tree. No animal would touch it. The captain had sought to challenge the Herald and by extension the Immortal Root itself. So he would rot and become part of the Root as fertilizer to atone for his actions.

Miji assessed the situation. He had a few of the crew members left, including Stewart. They had landed within minutes of the iron path, and he knew in which direction it was in. If they moved quickly, they could get out of this alive without any more casualties. The other crew members, however, had different ideas.
"We're going to die! We're all going to die!"
"No we're not!"
"We're in the middle of the forest, and the captain is dead!"
"Be quiet!" Miji hissed out. "If you make too much noise, you'll attract wild animals. Do you WANT to die? If we just move quickly, and be quiet, we can make it to the iron path. It's just a few minutes away."
The crew members seemed to get the idea, and quickly calmed themselves down. They traveled in the direction of the iron path, and surprisingly, they weren't attacked. They saw light shining through the trees up ahead, and knew they had made it. They stumbled onto the safety of the iron path.
