Ubisoft's Jean-Francois Boivin has revealed the first ever details about Assassin's Creed 3 to GamerZines, telling us that the yet-to-be-announced title will feature a "new setting" and a "new hero".

Talking to us at an Ubisoft event held in London on Wednesday, Assassin's Creed's Production Manager said that introducing a new character and setting to each numbered title in the franchise is "the way it works".

"Yep, that's the way we see our numbers," said Boivin when we asked him whether Assassin's Creed 3 would see a new lead character.

Now that we know more about the storyline in the Assassin’s Creed universe, we also get a clearer picture of the endgame in Assassin’s Creed 3. The highly advanced race of “The Ones Who Came Before” spoke through a hologram of Minerva to Desmond, through “The Propheth” Ezio, about their Temples. Several of these Temples were built around the globe to prevent the end of the world in 2012. The only known Temple so far is below the Vatican. In Assassin’s Creed 3 Desmond will have to find the other Temples in time. This to activate them in order to prevent a solar flare from reaching and scorching the Earth, which would kill nearly everyone once again. In a race against time, Desmond will have to re-enter the Animus 2.0 to continue his search for the exact locations of the Temples via his ancestor’s memories.

They dropped pretty big hints at that in the first game. Once in an e-mail on Vidic's computer that said the Templars were planning on launching a Piece of Eden into orbit to dominate everyone all at once, the launch date was set to be 21 December 2012. Also, 12/21/12 was one of the messages Subject Sixteen wrote in blood for Desmond.

About booty Creed 2: Altair's final Codex page is a musing about what happens to consciousness after death and comes to the conclusion that there is nothing. No judgment, no afterlife, simply nothing. He reasons that as death approaches and he is unlikely to suffer any consequences for it, he decides to look into the Piece of Eden one last time.

And so I have begun to wonder – might there not be a way to stop – or at least delay – death's embrace? Surely the ones who came before were not so frail and feeble as we. But I have sworn to be done with the artifact. To not gaze into its core. Still: faced as I am with the prospect of my end, what harm is there in one last look...

AssRev is confirmed already as going to involve Ezio traveling to Masyaf. Who else thinks he's going to find Altair's consciousness preserved in the Apple or perhaps another Piece of Eden?
