Because "ZOMG PEOPLE ARE DRESSING UP AS WITCHES. WITCHES ARE EVIL. THEY WORK FOR THE DEVIL. AND PEOPLE DRESS UP AS DEMONIC FIGURES. AND THEY LET SEEMINGLY HARMLESS DIVINING RITUALS AND GHOSTS OCCUPY THEIR ATTENTION. And, I guess that there's the occasional creep who might slip my kids some drugs in the candy, too, BUT OHMAHGAWD GET THOSE DEVIL WORSHIPERS AWAY FROM ME, AND TAKE AWAY THEIR WANNABE HOLY DAY"

Shortly before she goes on a rant about how "holiday" is derived from the words "holy" and "day", and then starts talking about how we should treat the real ones as such, as well as combining it with an etymology lesson.

That doesn't even make sense. Baptists are one of the groups that are supposed to make a big deal of Christmas (and rightfully so) SIMPLY FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS.

What the hell kinda anagram makes them think that "the devil's working in there" too?

They're not necessarily Baptist, but rather Fundamentalist, which is kind of a separate thing. I get it now.

^ It was. But nowadays people like scaring the shit out of one another so it's been skewed around to seem like a demon-summoning holiday instead of shunning.

:I Superchristians piss me off. And I'm Christian.

What's sad is I know people in my church that are like that. These people bodaciously don't even let their kids say "darn" or "shoot" if they hurt themselves. The mom is a teacher at the school I went to in HS and she yelled at us for playing "Sweet Home Alabama" on my guitar one day because it "was a ~worldly~ song".

If we took away EVERY pagan tradition then we'd never get to do anything ever. And life would be boring. And the Fundamentalists would just find something else to bitch about all day.

Oh I forgot to mention they're all ridiculously homophobic and if a man wears PANK they consider it to be "gay" and thus the PANK-garbed person is shunned.

And the mom apparently think males wearing ankle-socks is gay as well.

And what's hilarious is their sons are the most effeminate boys I have EVER seen and I am going to laugh so hard if one or both grow up to be gay or at the least "feminine" (because liking shopping and cooking and such as 'gay' too.)
