That's not the point. "lol, no." is a dick thing to say in this situation. I don't care that you've never heard of him. I don't even care that you're not that interested in who he is. The point is that there were very few things you could have said besides "lol, no." that would have made you seem like more of a dick, especially considering we're talking about a dead person.

"No thanks." or "I'm not really interested." or something like that would have been fine.

He was like "Rectify this." I thought it meant "Explain." I thought it was weird to ask someone to exlpain how they haven't heard of someone so I thought it was a joke. I said "lol, no" to carry on said joke.
