News

Post by Leoj »

This is an experimental thread that may become something or just fall into obscurity. I noticed occasionally people will post news stories as their own thread and I thought, what if we just had one thread where people posted individual news stories they thought were interesting and wanted to share but didn't need to create a thread for. Now you may think, but Leo, we already have a thread like that. This is true but this is strictly real news stories. The other thread is already so big, things could get lost, and is more or less about us rather than the world.

If this gets deleted, locked, or dies out oh well, I said it was experimental.

To start off some nice story about some crazy WoW player.

James Swan is 27-year-old. He still lives with his mom, sleeping in a room with his younger siblings. He also likes to play World of Warcraft without mom telling him when it's time to quit. We're pretty sure you can guess where this is going...

He was drinking and playing the game around 10 p.m., getting a bit too loud in the process. Since mom was trying to sleep, as were the five young children in the home, she asked him to quiet down.

Swan refused this small courtesy. So mom asked him again.

But as Swan saw it, it's impolite to interrupt someone during a riveting session of World of Warcraft. So he grabbed mom by the hair and threw her on the bed. When his little brother tried to intervene, he did the same to him.

Mom bolted to the kitchen to call 911. Swan took a moment from the game to engage in hot pursuit, ripping the phone from the wall. Then, just to put a theatrical point on his displeasure, he smashed his own head through the kitchen wall.

He then threw his mother on the floor and began choking her, saying he was going to kill her. Grandpa heard the commotion and arrived from his room. Mom was blacking out, but grandpa couldn't get him to stop. Swan also announced that he planned to kill grandpa too.

So grandpa went to his room and got a gun. He and Swan wrestled over the revolver, sending a bullet glancing off Swan's head and through the living room window.

Swan, apparently only wounded by the shot, was taken to a hospital, where he refused treatment and was arrested.

Has it? This one time I didn't bother to check. Usually I check and decide to necro or make a new thread (its always such a hard decision).

I don't think there is a GENERAL news one but rather just a bunch of individual stories.

News threads always fail.

But oh man, addiction is horrible.

if world of warcraft worked with a payment system where you only have to pay for the days where you actually log in we'd have a lot less of this stuff

No, people who are addicted to anything are crazy.

Uh, no. It wasn't a payment issue, it was an addiction issue.

Also, WoW is a service; like, cable or something, you pay for it even when you don't use it.

what i mean, is that there would be a lot less addiction because people wouldn't feel the need to play every single day to get their cheddar's worth

i guess in game social obligations are a huge factor too

That's, not why he's addicted. I've never met any WoW player who plays every day to get their cheddar's worth, addict or otherwise.

i'm surprised this isn't a factor for other people. when i have my wow subscription active, i always feel like i'm wasting my cheddar whenever i don't play wow. like, that's 50 cents down the drain for one day of not playing wow. AND IT ADDS UP

i guess i'm just a jew
