From what I take it, he knew. People are just all up in arms because not only did he play the song (which I think is a stupid reason to get upset - the woman was already on the bridge. I doubt she was on the fence about her decision and the song was what caused her to jump. :T) but he didn't throw everything aside when she threatened suicide. As he described it, he felt bad for the people whose entire schedules were "thrown into chaos by one troubled woman."

But he still said he was upset when she jumped and relieved when her injuries were minor. Everyone ignores that though because, OMG, HE PLAYED A SONG TITLED JUMP WHILE A SUICIDAL WOMAN WAS CONTEMPLATING JUMPING. And because he felt bad for someone besides her. Which, fuck, I would too. :l I'd feel bad for all the people that thought their day was just going to be a normal day, when they found out they couldn't drive to work because a woman was trying to kill herself on the bridge, and there was nothing they could do to change anything. That's fucked up.

Nobody likes the people who commit suicide by jumping under a train in rush hour.

Everybody just wants to get home at that time of the day, but after something like that they have to stop the trains for the police investigation and then the clean up afterwards.

By the time the trains get moving again no-one has any sympathy for the jumper.

Actually I feel sorry for the drivers of the trains in situations like that - psychological trauma etc.

It's always sad someone would end their life, but when they do it in such a way it would effect a large scale of people that doesn't even know them, it looks less like they couldn't live with it anymore and more like a final fuck you to the people that could have helped them, but didn't.

To stay more on topic, I think that the people blaming the DJ have some issues of their own to work out. It seems like it's situations like these where rationality is surprisingly scarce, and that frightens me. Ignoring the fact that he was only honoring a request, the song did not ultimately cause the woman to jump. She put herself up there, and while the song might have acted as a catalyst, it was not solely responsible for her attempted suicide.

To be truthfully honest, it scares me a little bit that we're even having this discussion. It's obvious that she's the one in need of help, not the DJ, and yet people are actually diverting their attention towards him.

Why help someone who actually needs it when we can waste our breath slamming someone needlessly?

Actual compassion and attention paid to the person who obviously needs it doesn't sell those news stories. We must focus on THE DRAMA.
