STORY JUST GOT INTERESTING AGAIN!

The entire thing was a hoax. Parents knew where the child was the whole time. They were doing it purely for attention. Parents built the balloon, launched it, and told the child to hide.

Why would they get jailtime? Fines make sense, since they knowingly sent the police on a wild goose chase for miles and miles, but jailtime seems a little harsh.

Depends on the area. But I wouldn't be surprised if they got like 30 days jailtime or something.
