HELL YEAH! My elementary was the same way. Except our contraptions were made of metal AND wood. So, if you wanted to get past the monkey bars, you had to fight the nests of wasps off with one hand, while holding on for dear life with the other.

We didn't watch that movie, but I still cried in Where the Red Fern Grows, though.

We didn't watch that movie, but I still cried in Where the Red Fern Grows, though.

We had the old, awesome playground, and then a slightly newer one where the only thing not made of plastic was the swingset. But a lot of the platforms on that one were made of wood so I guess they took one step "forward" (towards making children pussies) and then another step back (towards wasps!).

YES, but not until my freshman year of high school. It's still one of my favorite films, and that scene in particular is one of the best/saddest scenes I've ever watched. It's hard to find people who know about it - of all the people I know, only the ones who're considered hardcore cult-movie junkies (the kind you see going to Midnight Madness movies at the local independent theatres) have seen it, and that's still not a lot of people.

Did you ever see when Roberto Benigni won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film? His walk up to the stage is great.

Yeah, I'm not a hardcore movie junkie or anything - in fact, I probably would have never heard of this if not for watching it in elementary - but I absolutely love the movie. I haven't gotten to watch it in so long, it makes me sad. ;_;

I hadn't seen it, but I remember reading about how he was a long shot win, so he was placed far away from the stage, and that's why his journey to the stage was so epic. XD

I didn't know that! I just love how he's stepping on all these important people's heads with that insanely pop flyin' grin on his face.

I always see Life is Beautiful in Best Buy for $10. I'm actually going there tomorrow to pick up a headset, but now I'm definitely going to get this movie, too. : D

In other movie news, I just got through watching Wanted again. That movie entertains me so much, although I don't see how they're going to do a sequel with Angelina Jolie unless they start incorporating elements of the comic into it. :/

Avatar seems like it has a predictable storyline (military man infiltrates native society as an enemy spy, man learns about natives and sympathizes with them, man joins natives and turns on military), but I'm going to go see it simply because the graphics are amazing.

In the meantime.

I highly doubt anyone here has watched Guillermo Del Toro's El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone) but it's pretty good. I thought it was scary in a ghost story way, not in a stupid slasher movie way.

I am glad that movie isn't the Avatar the Last Airbender one because I was disapointed when I saw that preview (though admittedly cool looking) and thought that they had fucked up the whole concept/story.
