Moving at the end of August! Hype!
Leaving behind the scorched hellscape that is Dallas, Texas and relocating to a comfortably cool climate with thin air - Denver, CO!

an early farewell to my fellow Texas forumites - I'm sure you completely mad people love this state but I come from the land of the ice and snow that'd be the northeast USA, not Scandinavia. or really just anywhere that isn't Texas, according to people in Texas and I MISS THE ICE AND SNOW and air that you can breath and living somewhere that you can go outside and not want to immediate die/take a shower. And also the gorgeous goddamn mountains and parks and lakes and <3

Upon moving I'll have lived here in Dallas for exactly 11 months. I couldn't last a full year of Texas weather. I'm basically a frost giant.

I never lived in the land of Ice and Snow, but my stats were rolled to be advantageous in cold climates and disadvantaged in warm climates.
Don't blame me; I voted for Kodos.

Is it too late to get into weird European music? I've been jamming to Gogol Bordello ever since I borrowed one of my sis' Warped Tour albums back in middle school.

Can't speak to the costs of Denver, but as a heads up, the closer you are to Seattle, the more expensive everything is. Like, 1500 a month for a one-bed apartment expensive.

Denver's housing is more than what i currently have here in Dallas, but still within my affordability range. Gonna be roommates with my bff, so that's cool. :D

but Seattle is expensive as FUCK. My oldest sister and her husband lived there for 2 years and the 2 bedroom apartment they had (they also had a nursery because they had a baby while there) was paid for by my brother in law's job (he was there as a temporary posting to train a new branch's staff), otherwise it would have been impossible for them to afford it. Mind you they were IN Seattle, a nice part of Seattle. It's cheaper if you "live in Seattle" the same way that people "live in Dallas" but actually live in Coppell or "live in Austin" but actually live in Kyle, or "live in Houston" but actually live in Jersey Village. a 30-45 minute commute more than justifies rent being $900 cheaper.

yeah no we plan on living outside of seattle. like, in the country. so cost of living isn't as much of a concern tbh. same with denver. or like, anywhere. wherever we go we're living in the country. where else am i going to put 60 rabbits and billion snakes

Speaking of everyone moving, I'm likely to be moving to Lexington, KY by December. Isn't too far of a move for me, but I'm nervous about it because it's my first move aside from when I went to college for a few months.

ah, lexington
the largest town in KY that people who have never left the mountains INSIST counts as a city

they have like

one building thats notable and a state university
lameo

ALSO SPEAKING OF UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
The last time I was at Target I bought a bunch of stuff because I was redoing my bathroom (towels, soap dispensers, mats, shower curtains, new showerhead)
and the cashier gave me this excited look and asked me how my dorm room was
and i said

"demolished like four years ago."

My dorm at University of Kentucky was demolished a few years ago. r
and fact: people who buy showerheads are clearly experiencing dorm life

I actually don't know all that much about Lexington. I've lived in KY for 15 years now (unfortunately) and have only been to Lexington maybe 8 times. I have a few friends going to school there though and they seem to like it, so hopefully I won't absolutely hate it.

As far as cities go, its the best place in KY outside Louisville, with the added benefit of not being Lousiville.
but it would still be better to move out of the state. my life improved so fucking much when i moved. like, i stopped wanting to kill myself as much and that's not a stupid off-color joke

I'd like to eventually move out of the state but I don't want to be too far away from my mother. Not because I can't handle being away from her but because I don't think she can handle me being so far away. My younger sister moved out and around the same time my older sister began going in and out of jail and it's caused my mom a lot of stress so I know if II moved too far away it would be hard on her. I almost think Lexington is too far but there are bodaciously no jobs near where I live that aren't either truck driving or minimum wage retail jobs. I do plan to leave KY before I'm 30 though (20 now).

bodaciously the entire listing for every single job aggregation site for Johnson County is just "CDL DRIVER" and its either Pepsi or some coal hauling garbage - or mcdonalds.
The Nightman wrote:I do plan to leave KY before I'm 30 though (20 now).
30 is way old.
apologies to any late 20 year olds who may be on this forum. unless we have some users over the age of 30. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE
You're like
wanting to be an ESTABLISHED ADULT in the states with the 44th worst economy in the entire country
and those are stats from last year, just wait until 2027 when all the good people have left and Kentucky and West Virginia are just the mountain meth cousin of Florida
i mean

more than they already are

Yea for real all the job postings are "CDL CLASS A DRIVER HOME ON WEEKENDS" or something like that. Almost sounds like a forum bot.

30 is an absolute worst case scenario. I plan to leave as soon as I have a really solid nest egg built up so that I'll have enough saved up to live off of for six months or so. 30 is my cutoff for it. If I've not managed to save up that much in ten god daisies years than I might as well just become one with this inbred state and embrace it. If everything works out though I'll hopefully leave within the next few years.

Either go northeast or go west. Don't be one of those people who escapes the mountains to go to like
Tennessee or North Carolina

when you escape GO ALL THE WAY

Also don't claim Kentucky wherever you go unless you end up in the horse or bourbon business

I have the advantage of not being from there and only having lived there, so good luck
