I have yet to post the creepy one.
Do you find my current Shmorky avatar to be creepy or cute?
Alright, the first one is the famous Monty Hall problem. The answer is yes, you want to switch doors. It SEEMS as though there should be a 50:50 possibility, but if you write it out, there's only 3 possible scenarios, 2 of which cause you to win by switching.Plasma wrote:What were the answers to those "riddles" that were asked a good while ago?
Let's assume the doors are as follows:
Door 1: Goat
Door 2: Car
Door 3: Goat
If you pick door 1, the host will open door 3, because he knows what's behind the doors, and he's not gonna reveal the car. If you switch, you win.
If you pick door 2, the host will randomly reveal one of the other two doors, and if you switch, you lose.
If you pick door 3, the host will reveal door 1, and if you switch, you win.
The other riddle also seems like no matter what you do you're stuck at a 50:50 chance, but there's one solution that gives you almost 75% probability. Stick 1 white pearl in one box, and 49 white and 50 black in the other box. The box with a single pearl is an automatic win (50% chance of this happening), and in the other, you have CLOSE to a 50% chance of picking a white pearl (almost 25% chance of this happening). The end result is 50% + almost 25% = almost 75%.
