I need some new bands to check out and would appreciate any recommendations. I like most rock from the 60s to the 90s and some metal (nothing really heavy though, heaviest band I listen to is probably Manowar). To get an idea of what I like, some of my favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Helloween, Queen, Dio, Alice in Chains, Genesis, The Who, The Doors, Mr. Big, Neil Young, and Simon and Garfunkel.

Yo if you like the Doors and the Who the new Swans albums you might be into. Since you specified not super heavy you probably wouldn't like too much of their earlier stuff but if you get into them they do have a huge discography to dive into. I would recommend starting with their album My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky, here's a song from it:

Also since you like Neil Young and Simon and Garfunkel you might really like Sufjan Stevens, try out his album Come On Feel the Illinoise!

General great bands that I personally like that to me feel kind of just in general good no matter who you are:

The Mountain Goats, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Tom Waits, Flying Lotus, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Nujabes, The Avalanches, The Chromatics, Thee Oh Sees, Wavves, Why and Ween
Great Job!

Oh nice, I like both of those songs you linked. I'll check them out. I like the singer's voice for Swans, and I love the soothing tone of that Sufjan Stevens song...makes for some good feelgood music.

I also gave a quick listen to a couple of Swans' older songs just now and I don't think it's too heavy. I like it.

Thanks man!

I'll look into those other bands later when my internet isn't being so slow and I can actually load up a video quickly.

if you like the more early Swans stuff too, I'd recommend checking out the albums Children of God, Holy cheddar, and my personal favorite Swans album, Filth

It's really great music for like, being frustrated, it's almost like some of it is scraping out your soul
Great Job!

Filth was actually the one I checked out. I liked it pretty well, it had a nice dirty tone to it.

hell yeah boyee

If you like stuff like that, I'd recommend checking out the band Big Black, namely their album Songs About Fucking. Death Grips is also neat industrial hip-hop, so you might enjoy it.
Great Job!

Friend got me a free ticket to a Maxxies show. I'd be more excited, but they have to fight another band off the stage or something? Both bands are passing out free tickets to try and take over the venue, the House of Blues I think. I've seen the Maxxies once before at the Fox Theater in Pomona, and they scare me, they're like the Anti Aquabats, I fear for the well being of the other band.

I'm just now finally listening to Clipping and they're amazing

How is it humanly possible to mix harsh noise and radical jamming beats in such a satisfying way
Great Job!

Hellyeah's new album dropped today, and it's on my Kindle waiting for the right time when I can sit and just listen to it.

EDIT: Okay, initial impression, I think this is gonna be my new favorite for a while:

The A in this case stands for Armageddon. As in, Armageddon a boner because this plane has a fucking HOWITZER sticking out of it.

Peste Noire is really good. French + black metal + a hint of punk is a combination that just works.

Man, Ozzy Osbourne's antics had made me forget a bit how fucking amazing Black Sabbath is. They were the highlight of a pretty packed weekend with Alestorm, Jeff Scott Soto, Sepulture, Steel Panther, Slayer, Behemoth, Avenged Sevenfold, Sabaton, Powerwolf, Skillet, Gojira, Limp Bizkit, Alice In Chains, Hatebreed, Rob Zombie, Bring me the Horizon and Gloryhammer. Missed Mastodon, Meshuggah and Powerman 5000 unfortunately, but all in all I had a great time at Graspop.
