EVER.
There are actually people where I live who learned how to read from games. One of my friends learned to read from Cockfighting Society Gold & Silver.
By the way, speaking of married cockfighting society, did you know Wailord and Skitty are in the same egg group?

....Yes. Yes we did.
Apparently, so are Chris-chan and Pikachu.

That's been a running joke on these forums for quite some time.

Yeah, everyone except you knew that.
Everyone knew that shortly after Ruby and Sapphire were released.
Which was over five years ago.

I picked up reading insanely fast, reaching college level by the 6th grade, from what my mom tells me. And I KNOW video games helped. I know Pokemon specifically taught me quite a few words. In particular, I remember learning the word 'prodigy' from someone in Victory Road. I tell my mother this every time she starts to say that video games are detrimental to development. Sure, some games can be in some areas, but...honestly, at the very LEAST you're still improving your hand-eye coordination, and if you very likely inherited Arnold-Chiari malformation, that's a PRECIOUS thing to have. xD

I was always a good reader.
But I'd say that video games helped me get to college level.
That's where I think I am now--maybe higher, but I haven't been tested or anything.

As far as testing goes, I do recall taking what I REMEMBER to be a week-long computer test in school (Of course, this is probably 20-45 minutes--several tests combined--per day of class time, not a full day, and I have a NOTORIOUSLY spotty memory, so I might be confusing this test with another) in my freshman year. You might be able to find something similar online--obviously, finding something totally professional might be difficult, but you could get an idea. If I remembered what the test was called, I'd tell you. Anyway, from what I remember, the scale we were judged on went to 1600, topping at 1600+, with somewhere around 1100 being college level and 1500 being doctor level or some bullshit like that. I'm in Indiana, so as you might imagine the results were not stellar. However, two students, myself included, broke the limit, so I wouldn't call it particularly reliable if you happen to be very literate. xD;
EDIT: To clarify, I don't think it's reliable because you can break the scale, not because two Hoosiers managed it. xD

I learned english by playing Pokemon Games, out of necessity to know what the heck they were saying, at the wee age of 6 (not full english of course, just a little more than the basics and some added knowledge).
surprised the heck out of my english teachers from elementary

Is English not your first language?

I am that good at English solely thanks to music and pirated videogames.

I've known that for a long time. I was just reminded of it by what people have been saying.

Dimitri from Sly Cooper learned his English through hip-hop music.

The main reason my mom lets Finn watch TV and play videogames is to help his vocabulary and language skills.
