I'm pretty sure the critics for Alice were worse, at least at one point. But still, it was to be expected.
From what I gather, it's just a relatively soulless (as in generic) action movie, so if you like that stuff, go right ahead. The mainstream will probably like it and the critics will rage because it's not deep enough for them.

Hmm... I think I google for some reviews and then decide wether it's worth it or not. Even if I go there, and it turns out that I don't like it, luckily we still have free tickets so we won't waste any cheddar.

Most critics know more about movies than the mainstream does, which is why they have higher expectations than most people. You might not care, Tatzel might not care either, but it's silly to ignore their knowledge of film-making and pretend they don't exist.
There's a good amount of critics who have completely biased reviews as well, but Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic give a good overall idea of how good a film should be.
In general, classics were/are highly regarded amongst critics, while the ones that got average to bad reviews are quickly forgotten.

I guess "bad" movies should be called "ordinary" or "forgettable" instead.

Saw bits and pieces of Shrek: Forever after at work. Looks ok, but Dreamorks, if this is not truly the last Shrek movie, i'm going to be so rustled.

Invictus was an awesome movie. I really recommend it.

Dammit, really? Really? *sigh*

I just don't like it when someone says to listen to a critic or a "professional" review before they go to see a movie. If you wanna see it, see it and form YOUR OWN OPINION. Whether or not you end up liking it or not is irrelevant. You're making a gamble every time you go into a movie theater anyway.

Normally I would've done this Firestorm; see a TV ad for a movie where I think it's interesting and just go watch it.
I've become more cautious in the last time, mainly because the cinema here costs a SHITTON of cheddar (a good 30 euros for two tickets, popcorn and drinks), plus 5 euros tram tickets, so it's an expensive loss if the movie is stupid. I mean, sure, I know I can't base my opinion on what other people think, but I'm trying to save as much as I can. Even if I have free tickets, let's say I use them now and think I wasted them, I had to pay a lot for a movie which would've been released soon after, and had to pay up for the new one.
