how cool was vision though
I liked Ultron's personality. It might be more of what we've come to expect from Whedon's Marvelverse, but as far as "AI gains sentience and wants to annihilate humanity," it's a comparatively fresh direction. He really acts like a child who believes he is serving a compassionate goal. Look at how hurt he is when the twins leave him. He's a baby, unable to realize the consequences of his actions.

Re: Movies
Saw Ultron, was fun but had quite a bit of flaws.
I would've liked more focus on the infinity stone. I was super stoked when I saw it and was pop flyin' when it was confirmed what it was, I'm glad I recognised its resemblance to Guardians of the Galaxy. It felt like it got really bumped down in importance, much less important than its sibling in GotG.
I really did not like the Bruce x Nat romance subplot. It felt forced, cheesy and out of place. It also felt inconsistent with the subtle romantic hits between Hawkeye and Nat in the previous film, it's like that never happened and it felt inconsistent with how Nat was afraid of Bruce in the previous film.
I feel disappointed that Pietro died, I liked him and he could've provided witty banter between him and Hawkeye in future films.
I liked Ultron as well, his attitude was entertaining and provided an interesting opposition.
Also, I REALLY disliked Nat for saying she was a monster simply because she's infertile. Like wow Whedon, get off your fucking "Women are only good if they make babies" high horse.

Re: Movies
I.... didn't see it that way at all. I think she called herself a monster because she was born and raised to be a killer, the infertility was just kind of an added punctuation to that end.Valbrandur wrote:Saw Ultron, was fun but had quite a bit of flaws.

But I agree the romance thing was really... odd. I think the movie could have been just fine without it, or maybe just with subtler hints at it. I like the idea that Nat and Bruce share some kind of bond, but I think that it was really rushed. Like, that conversation about how neither of them can make babies? What? Didn't you just find out you were into each other?
That said I still think it was a great movie, looking forward to the next one.

Re: Movies
Well, I agree that the raised to be assassin would make someone feel like they are a monster but to me, the infertile thing felt like it was emphasized. I guess I might just be reading too much into it but to me it sounded like the infertility was such a big part of her being a monster, but I can't really back that up with anything.
Edit: I also want to say that Natasha felt very disconnected from the rest of the Avengers. Apart from the moments with Hawkeye's children and a few comments, she only really interacted for Bruce so I got the feeling she was more of a love interest for Bruce rather than an Avenger.

Re: Movies
Considering her past and whatnot the disconnect really doesn't surprise me. She thinks she's a monster because of what she was made to be and what she's done, he thinks he's a monster because of what he could do if he's not careful. Everyone else is more or less a shining beacon of justice in some form and even Hawkeye's revealed to be a regular Joe Familyman off the job.Valbrandur wrote:Edit: I also want to say that Natasha felt very disconnected from the rest of the Avengers. That probably also explains the reveal about the infertility, I think. She knows that even the other shady Avenger has a slice of normalcy that she won't. Even if she pulls out of the business and never looks back her past has scarred her so thoroughly that she can't have a family of her own like everyone else. I don't have a hard time believing that side of it might frighten her a bit more.

bane and aeon flux
I hear from everyone it's the tits. I'll see it next week when the crowds die down.
Re: Movies
Finally got around to seeing Age of Ultron. It was pretty good, and like many good villains I found myself seriously wanting more screentime for the title-bot. He's, uh, very snarky for a robot.

Re: Movies
I liked how Ultron was played up less as evil robot and more as evil Tony Stark. It really created a neat interaction between them that I really wish they would have milked more of.

Re: Movies
The whole thing is a cautionary tale(OH JOY). They say that the world is going to shit in 58 days(which becomes a pointless time limit because it shows up like twice) and the main character is the chosen one because she's filled with HOPES and DREAMS! (OH. FUCKING JOY.) And then we're shown the most generic-booty bullshit of nuclear bombs going off and vegetation overgrowing everywhere.....in like two months. So the whole cause of the problem is, get this, to try and prevent the future where the world dies, they invent a machine that subliminally shows everyone in the past the terrible future(THE ILLUMINATI IS REAL) and instead of trying to prevent it, we EVIL HUMANS decide to embrace this future. Subliminally. So the bad future is happening because we were shown the bad future, which makes us want the bad future, which leads to the bad future. I.....WHAT?!?!?!? And what's the cause of this bad future that we apparently want? "You know it is video games and television and politics and the corporations and obesity and starvation at the same time" and on and on and ON AND ON AND ON, and it just feels like a confused ramble. And yes. Video games and the television cause.....nuclear bombs. But not to worry! As long as there are people filled with HOPE and LOVE and DREAMS and WONDER and DISNEY MAGIC, we can save the future! Oh and we see like ten minutes of Tomorrowland. It is generic and boring. Also the love interest is a robot that looks like a 12 year old girl. And this is somehow considered creepy as fucking hell.
So yeah, pretty bad.
So yeah, pretty bad.

Re: Movies
I could have seen Mad Max.
But I was with my family and didn't want to make them wait forever for that one to end.
I CHOSE MY FAMILY OVER MY HAPPINESS AND I CHOSE WRONG.
