What would your opinion on a game based almost entirely on the politics of an ailen planet be like?
I know, I know, it sounds like Mass Effect, but the actual feel of the concept is much different. For instance, more steampunk, more magic, only two planets, less shooting shit, 21st Century Earth (or 20 Minutes into the Future), more resource distribution and economy control and you play as a literal dragon lady.

Also, Sceb, don't be afraid of the occasional thing that sounds like it's borrowed from something else. People tend to want to group things together. Usually they're just saying that your game will sound like it's in the same genre of games as whatever they mention.

Yeah... daisies stolen ideas...
But the thing is that I really want the game to actually seem like a RPG with a puzzle game as its battle system, rather than just a puzzle game with an RPG "feel" added on. So there would be a somewhat open overworld the player actually traverses, and puzzles of the other variety like actual block puzzles in certain places. Something to make the game equal parts RPG and puzzle game.
Yeah, that's why I said it would be better than Puzzle Quest. :F
Go for it, I'd love to play something like that.

NEW GAME IDEA:

I really like Poker Defense for StarCraft: Brood War. It's really fun, but ugly and broken.
I've always liked the idea of using cards and things to create minions/cast stuff by executing combinations of cards (Example: Chain of Memories and StarCraft II's Bejeweled thing). Maybe poker hands, maybe solitaire or bottle caps falling out of a vending machine, who knows.
...
Bottle caps from vending machines that summon monsters to do your bidding.
Collect tokens to put in machine to get bottle caps.
Bottle caps summon/aid monsters and send them across the map to your opponent's base.
Save up caps to use in recipes to get stronger monsters and power-ups!
...
I think I just described the multiplayer of Pikmin 2...
Why can't more games be like that? ;A;

Another X genre with Y genre as a battle system.
Turn-based strategy game along the lines of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, or a Nippon Ichi game. When two units fight, you actually control your unit during a short battle that plays like a fighting game.
I'm not really as enthusiastic about this one compared to the other idea, since really the two genres aren't very synergistic.

Something like North and South?

Uhh... kind of I guess?
Anyway since this thread is also about what we want to see more in games, I'll just say that I really want to see more status effect skills that are actually useful. It just often seems like moves that don't directly deal damage are overlooked, doesn't it?

Some are useful if you have the right strategy with party members.

A single combatant, though, and they become big 'HIT ME' signs.

Another thing to add to my mondo idea!

Yeah I really like (or hate, if I'm getting hit by it all the time) status effects along the lines of:
  • increased damage recieved
    reduced damage dealt
movement reduction (slow run/low & heavy jump)
movement confusion (left is up and down is jump!)
perpetual movement (can't stop/I'M ON FIRE!)
screen blind (usually for single player games)
And it saddens me that games don't use them more often...

By the way Vrom, what if one player could play as the human for the strategy game? Do you think that could work somehow?

Well this sure is unique...

I guess so... but they'd have to have no way of telling where the groups would be unless stuff happened too much; like lots of skin biting being a signal for "attack here" or whatever.

And they'd have to have the host map look completely different from the parasite group version, since some people would try and team up as host & parasite they'd have to have some kind of team blindness thing in place so the host would be more likely to attack their friends than the other players.

Great... now I'm itching all over.

I'd play, iff I had reliable internet.

UNLESS you call it a bard, it needs buffs.

That sounds pretty good, but thief/mages seen pretty underpowered compared to all the others...
maybe give them some sort of bonus that really seperates them from the others?

Warrior
Bandit (Warrior/Thief)
Battlemage (Warrior/Mage)
Thief
Warlock (Thief/Mage)
Mage

Continue.

Since we don't know all of the skills you've thought of, it's a bit early to really talk about balance issues.
But maybe the barriers from abjuration could also be used as weapons?

what if there was a modern game set in the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind universe? Something like the newer Fallouts, but with fantastical environments, an evocative orchestral score, and much more verticality in the environments. And maybe vehicles too.
