I'm trying to figure out if I should get DS 3. The main problem why I couldn't get into the original (beyond the difficulty) was the lack of purpose and objective beyond "just go to places and kill the things there." Are there actual objectives in DS 3 or is it just a murder fest like the other ones?

I don't know, but I managed to beat the first boss without dying.
Which is more than I can say for DS1 and Bloodborne.
(Freaking Father Gascoigne.)

If anything it's even vaguer. So far all I'm going on is I need to get some guys on their thrones or something, which will probably involve killing them.

DS3's final boss music is fucking spectacular, seriously, oh my fucking god, the inclusion of Gwyn's theme at the end is utterly beautiful.

Did Halberds always scale more with Dex?

i dont remember it being that way. ive not progressed very far, only beating two bosses so far as i am exploring -everything- i can find. ive only managed to die once and that was at the very beginning of the game vs that optional fight.

I mean, as a weapon class, not necessarily. There's a lot of different halberds.

As the weapon, the Halberd, I think in DS1 it was quality, and I can't remember from DS2 because of the few months it was pure cancer in it's most carcinogenic form and I have never picked one up since.

Had my first boss death. (Not my first death overall though, I died a lot on the way to it.)
Curse-rotted Greatwood. Died because I didn't realise the undead spawn infinitely and was trying to clear them out.
Killed it on my second try.

Edit:
Crystal Sage is a butt. I need to get used to dodging sorceries.
Also GIANT CRABS. My first thought seeing it spit water was "I'm fighting a Daimyo Hermitaur!"

I got the Great Machete for now but I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading, it only has D STR scaling. Any one know if I'm going to find better STR weapons soon? Just beat the tree of rotten eggs.

Also, I can't take screenshots for some reason. Everything just shows up as black.

I've had my fair share of dying from adjusting from Dark Souls 1 into 3. Enemies are still super predictable, but their habits aren't nearly as abuseable as before.

I finally stopped trying to fish backstabs out of the mobs and started playing with the new Stance skill system. It's convinced me to allot a bit of estus to my ashen flask due to how versatile they are when timed well.

Current at Cathedral of the Deep, and I've finally gotten into the game's rhythm. I managed to bump my average frames to 20, which seems to play at an even pace up to those rare moments where my 610 card can somehow achieve 30 FPS.

I'm a little sad that I can't just accidentally wander into places I'm not ready to tackle in this game, but the level design in itself is some of the best I've experienced in a long time.

Actually this game is kinda weird, scaling on 99% of all weapons is D or lower until you upgrade it. It starts increasing pretty quick. The Great Machete specifically however only goes to C, but the tradeoff is heavy base power.

You can also always infuse it with Heavy. That decreases base damage, but increases scaling. However, the base damage decrease is almost always negligible, and the scaling increase is more often that not way way higher than what you lose.

Think I'm going to go with the Large Club for now.
