I did accidently kill a black Knight and get his halberd. I only ran past him for a shield and he just sort of fell off a cliff.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
all the black knight weapons are fantastic but that is a nutso lucky drop. the scaling isn't super great, D strength E dex, but it's got a base of 367 at it's maximum of +5 which uses twinkling titanite. it's a really good strength weapon. if you've got the stats to hold it it's probably the best weapon you have.Liraxus wrote:I did accidently kill a black Knight and get his halberd. Are you going for a strength build or a dex one? If you're not going for a strength build then it's not gonna be great for you anyway, but if you ARE and you've already reached Quelagg, you really need to start leveling more because that's nowhere near enough.Liraxus wrote:Oh, sweet, too bad it needs 32 strength when I only have 16.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
I still need to finish my first Dark Souls run.
Did a sorcery build, up to Four Kings. Also use the Moonlight Greatsword because my sorceries aren't infinite.
Kept getting killed by them and stopped playing.
I know all sorts of tricks from watching Dark Souls speedruns and challenge runs now, I just never actually went back to try.
Plus since I managed to struggle through Bloodborne's Platinum I think I should have the patience to finish Dark Souls.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
It took me eleven attempts to finally get through the Four Kings.
It was a fun battle.

Don't blame me; I voted for Kodos.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
So, I'm playing through Dark Souls for the second time and doing all the things I missed out on with my first play through and am tackling challenges that I waited for end game to complete, all while actually having an internet connection.
On my first play through, before getting to the end of all things, I decided I would go fight the Hydra in Darkroot Basin. My overpowered gear made it die really fast. This playthrough, I ran up to fight it as early as I could with things upgraded to Pre-Large Titanite Shard maxes..
It was a lot easier than I expected.
I also tried PVP for the first time. It hurt.
I am also assisting my Souls Newbie friend in accomplishing tasks. I didn't realize people could run into SO MANY SWORDS without taking up a change in play style.
In other news, I keep stumbling upon the blood stains of this one specific poor hollow who keeps running into attacks, using estus as soon as she recovers from the hit, and then dies as her face meets the end of something else's blade.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
I started up the original again after I never really played it because it was so frustrating. Yep, I'm still as bad as I was like 4 years ago. I think this game isn't for me.

Boring me with my boring lack of looking things up through Youtube because I'm too lazy to bother with videos didn't even know people were streaming it.
Lucky me, I guess.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
If you have a 500 series nvidia GPU, download the 314.22 driver. A lot of people on cards from the 500 line are saying they get massive performance increases with that driver.Airra wrote:I average roughly 11 FPS, but I am having a great time with the new Dark Souls. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Me, on the other hand, my issue is if I have the lighting set to anything but "low" and barely glance in the general direction of where a bonfire might be, the game fucking crashes my GPU entirely and forces a hard reset of the computer.
otherwise it's fucking fantastic. it's dark souls 1 but sped up a fuckload. not quite as fast as bloodborne, and definitely less complex, but still on a similar level of speed.
level design is great as well. instead of dark souls 1's linear paths that intersect, or dark souls 2's spokes on a wheel, this basically gives you two/three different paths that intersect repeatedly but lead to the same location. gives the feeling of inter-connectivity that DS1 had, but without the issues that DS1 had.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
I still haven't played DS2.
Should I skip it and get DS3?
I can always go back to getting it later.

Re: Dark/Demon's Souls
DS2 is very much a different game from either DS1 or 3. Movement and combat is almost entirely different, level design is extremely different, and it uses a lot of mechanics that DS3 ignores.Bappie wrote:I still haven't played DS2.

I would say the difference between DS2 and DS1 is comparable to the difference between DS1 and Bloodborne. I recommend it, because I loved DS2 the whole way through, but you'd want to get SotFS because it's got all the DLC and is better than the vanilla game.
But you can so easily skip it. It might even make getting into DS3 easier because it's bodaciously DS1's movement and combat feel.
