I'd say. We keep the map we have now until the big update. Because when the update comes out, basically all other maps become obsolete. So you have to restart.

THIS WORLD

Image

Was the most favorite world I ever played on.

I miss it. :<

IS THIS

Sandwich?

That big department store, the wizard island...
Picture taken from my sandstone castle roof. The one with all the water flowing out of the walls and ceiling with the raised area you fell through to the basement.

And here is the basement of my airship dock (where I built the Celaeno from the Shadow of Israphel).

lol accidental screenshots

There was a TARDIS I built in the corner BEHIND me when I bumped the screenshot button.

Anyone have this world saved anywhere? :>

Ah yes that map, the one where I built a city in the desert, a few adventure sites, and no one would want to stick around them.
It's also where the holy cactus blessed our doors.

If the map gets reset, I would probably want to join. I hate jumping into a game with tonnes of structures all around. I am a decent builder and ran a town on Buxville if anyone played there? Remember Atomium? I was one of the founders.

Anyhow, I have been watching your thread and I might join if things look good.

If we do update to a new map for 1.8, which makes sense since I'm guessing we would need to for NPC villages to function, the only thing I would want is for that map to be stable until the next major content release. I only have so much time to play and it gets frustrating to put a pile of work into something only to have it scrapped in a few months because people get bored and start over. I just don't want it to be a brand new map every other month.

it would be pointless to start a fresh new normal map right now if we're doing so again at 1.8, but alternatively, we could put an adventure or custom map up in the until the update

From what I've seen so far, a new map is only generated when major new content is released. Or whenever the community wants to play with WorldEdit and make a Skylands. I could be wrong though.

As for the new map, I had expressed a few ideas in the AZ Skype chat, and I'd like to share them here.

For the spawn point, if possible I'd like new players to be in a small (albeit with little or no resources) town or landmark, where they can find momentary shelter before setting about in the world. We can post announcement signs here and the like, if possible. Whatever is built at spawn would mostly be just to say, "Hey, you're in the spawn."

I'm not sure how being registered/aligned for two different faction would work (other than simply saying you are or being a free agent), though I do like the idea of split towns. We did have some issues with lag in the city, so I think this is a good thing. The following are just ideas/suggestions, and in no way am I demanding that the factions/groups have to be a certain way.

For factions, I think what would be really neat is having groups center around a central building theme, and letting people join whichever group they want, so long as they build to that theme. For example, if we chose to do the two factions, one faction could build to the landscape (and have a natural build style) and the other faction would simply mold the landscape to their purposes (having a more man-made approach/stiff structures).

Other themes could be always having structures near water/fire/lava, a mining/underground group, or even a sort of traveling/nomadic group that sets up houses for a night before taking them down again in x amount of days.

I say yes if it means the next map will be planned and if at least Kadoom gets to keep his airship.

If/when we do get a new map, shouldn't we ALL start anew instead of everyone except kadoom?

Not to say I dislike his airship and stuff, but I'd certainly like to keep my stuff too if he does

The only thing that is being copied over is the airship itself. He has farmed almost all the materials himself, and I think keeping some of those mats is only fair because of the largeness of the project.

All MCMMO stats (even KaDoom's) will be reset, though. You will all start at the default cheddar as well, which I believe is 1,000 cheddar.

I dunno, I guess my main issue is that if we're just gonna start over with every update, then what's the fucking point in doing anything?

To be honest I would like it if we don't have a gigantic capital city. Maybe a tiny town hall with a few houses spread around it, then maybe as we dig deeper and gather more supplies we can expand.

This is the plan. There won't be a big city like it was with the current map. AC has caused way too much lag as is, so we will be encouraging players to split up and make their own towns.

I'm aware that not everyone is up to designing cities (or to build them), however we've already had a few people sign up for the city-designing. I will probably create a few villages/small towns myself as well.

As for the "but what about my stuff!" argument: Honestly folks, if you don't want your creations to be destroyed or gone, create them on the single player map. The simple truth is this: whatever we make in our lives will be gone eventually. Nothing lasts forever. Things are constantly changing and you should have expected there to be map resets on a multiplayer server with a game that is still developing. It's a sandbox game. And like a sandbox, the things you make will eventually become gone again as you make other things.

Doom's ship is no exception to this. Though unlike many of the things we built, he was also building it not just for him, but for the community as well to enjoy. He also asked us to preserve it, and we'd like to preserve his hard work until he is at least finished.

Aside from this, with the map reset, this will introduce new map changes that will be awesome for everyone. NPC villages, ruins, etc. If you feel lazy you can probably kill off every living thing in those villages and move in yourself, if you didn't feel like building anything.
