Sends redstone signals.
CaptainSparklez did a pretty good video bout it.

Also what are these people talking about, "slabs on walls"?

The player can now see the cracking effect on blocks when other players mine blocks in multiplayer.
Oddly this is what I am most pleased about.

You know those halfslabs you put on the ground as a stepping stone? Well now you can put those against walls to extend them half a block outward.
Like this:
[xx] = block
[x] = halfslab
[xx][x]
[xx][x]
[xx][x]

Oh... I tried but I couldn't get it to work so I was probably doing it wrong.

Dunno, you might have to make a special halfslab. Like instead of making a horizontal halfslab you make a vertical one or something.

Really good thread offering constructive criticism on survival mode.
Towards the end of the first post it devolves into somewhat incoherent rage at the (agreeably) idiotic community, and the responses largely indicate exactly that until around page 5 or 6. Then it picks up again to be a good debate on how Survival could really improve.

Sure is great how they locked that thread after meaningful debate and good ideas to improve the game happened.

Mojang is just, really, really against good game design.

The first post was very nice, but a lot of these replies are just wrong, on a sadly childish level.
7. The community can improve I agree. Maybe you should set a better example by not cursing.
Here is what I realize that you don't seem to... the game devs are NOT obligated in any way, shape, or form to do ANYTHING else to this game.
heretics have contributed heavily to the community through introducing a different and new play style to the game such has hugging creepers rather than running from them.
(Okay this one is probably a joke, sorry)

The best point I found in the initial post was difficulty re: mobs. Only zombies have anything more than extra damage on higher difficulties, and this annoys me.

Skeletons could get accuracy and firing rate, creepers getting explosion radius and intensity (breaking more block types) spiders leaving behind cobwebs and upside down climbing, with difficulty level affecting frequency of cobwebs and normal+ with the upside down climbing.
His thing about getting rid of peaceful is uncalled for, sometimes people like to play in peaceful specifically because they like getting the resources themselves, and it's unfair to get rid of that.

I can think of loads of other things.
Scorpions for deserts, fiery arrows for skeletons, snakes, lions, tigers, harpies, beholders, various natural golems, water elemental, dinosaurs of varying types...
On the items, he is also right. I would love to kill a zombie and it drops a mace with a stun effect in it. Or an armour with poison resistance. Or even an armour with an "on hit" effect. Go full Diablo 2 on the game. It would be fantastic to have an armour that would create an electric shockwave when struck.
The problem is and has always been content.
