i'm not good at minecraft

So I was laying down tracks for minecart travel, and what I had so far was basically just the tracks going down a big hill. before I had even placed most of the tracks, I had put the minecart on at the top of the hill. After I finished putting the tracks down, I thought "alright, now to go test it!" I turned around and saw that a chicken had decided to test it for me. I was at the bottom of the hill. Looking at a chicken in the minecart which I had placed at the top of the hill.
