I won't really speak for how much better than any other LoZ game play wise, but I will say that I liked the feel of the game atmosphere wise. The set pieces and characters all felt really cool to me. I really liked the look of the game and the feeling of it. It felt, iunno, like it had a lot of respect for the past games (particularly oot obviously) but to me it didn't really feel too much like a rip-off or anything. It did feel like a direct continuation of oot though. Like a spiritual successor I suppose.

I also liked how it controlled for the most part. I would have liked if all the sword moves you learned were required though, because the fact that they're not meant that they didn't really make any enemies that needed mastery (or even use) of those moves to be defeated.

Majora is my favorite Zelda game, but I think TP comes in second tied with WW. Mind you I've only played the 3D zeldas and the very first one so take that as you will.
Or, y'know, whatever.

I think it'd be fair to rate the 2D and 3D Zelda games seperately because they tend to have completely different styles of play.
That's part of why I'm looking forward to the new game on 3DS, as I loved LttP and I hope it'll bring both some of the newer elements in Zelda that I enjoy and the sense of grand adventure that I've been missing in the 3DS titles (though WW had some of it, certainly).

Personally, I still think Ocarina of Time is the best, though Majora's Mask is my favorite by far. I really don't think there have been any bad games in the series, but PH and TP are definitely the weakest, IMO. And yes, I actually really liked Zelda II, despite how tough it is.

...I actually liked Phantom Hourglass. It's one of the few Zelda games I've actually finished, for one thing. Although I still hated doing the Sea King's Temple or whatever it's called. I mean, until I got that awesome sword.

OoT is in the weird position of where I have to acknowledge how utterly revolutionary it was for the series and genre, but also about how poorly it has aged in terms of both graphics (who in their right mind thought that the N64 could handle photo-realism?), control (HELLO YES THIS IS PLAYER I WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY CONTROL MY CAMERA PLEASE), and general game design (hello there, Kaepora Gaebora speeches and King Zora scooting). I genuinely think that it's the most overrated game ever made.

Out of all the Zelda's I've played, my favorite is still OoT 3D, but this is probably because the only Zelda games I ever played were Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, and that game.

I'd probably say Skyward sword as better, but Links awkward turning and the motion controls I could care less about just turn me off.

I never personally liked TP (not that I played it much). I hate how it tries just too hard to be dark and gritty and I hate it so much
What makes me hate it more is that it was going to be the sequel to Windwaker but Nintendo was like "no WW didn't sell because the graphics (which is actually why it did sell)" and made it a standalone game


Then Phantom Hourglass tried being a sequel

I am going to gush a bit about the WW overworld because god daisies do I love it

In the previous 3D zeldas (and then again in the later ones) the areas in the game worlds were all segmented. Hyrule field was essentially a big, empty room with a bunch or rooms off to the side (and one in the middle). All the interesting things to do were cordoned off, and the screen went white while the plot-important area loaded. Hyrule and Termina field (and later, the Sky) just didn't feel like a natural environment. Meanwhile, when you come across a new island in Wind Waker, all that happens is the Great Sea music stops, and all you can hear is the lapping of the waves on the shore. You have to search out the islands by yourself, and you can see them from a ridiculous distance away. And because the islands (once you're close enough to have them fully rendered, at least) use the same number of polygons while you're on your boat as when you're on them, there is no loading time when you embark. It's a eamless experience. And also, while all the areas where things are accomplished in the other games are rather large and number in less than a dozen or so (Hyrule Castle Town, Kakario Village, Lon Lon Ranch, Lake Hylia, Kokiri Woods, Death Mountain, Zora's Domain), Wind Waker has 49 separate islands, each and every single one of them with at least SOME secret to find in them. And that's not mentioning the fact that the 49 areas ALSO contain things beyond the islands, such as the submarines and big octos.

Wind Waker is just really really great.

Wind Waker is weird because it seems like the over world is really empty but then you look at the platform and submarine maps and realize its pretty dense.
If only they had taken the time to make the two extra dungeons instead of the Triforce hunt, then it would be pretty much perfect.

It was the Triforce hunt that caused me to drop WW. Majora's Mask is my top.

As much as I adore Wind Waker, I have to agree about the Triforce Shard sidequest. While it did take you to a lot of interesting locations and put you through some cool puzzles, I would have preferred two more dungeons. I'd like it if they had just made some huge, expansive side quest that took you all around the world that wasn't required, but had a really awesome reward; maybe something in the same vein as the Biggoron's sword or the Fierce Deity's mask.

I don't see why Nintendo seems to think that we need these horribly expansive, patience-testing, padded-out side quests at the ends of the 3d games these days. The aforementioned side quest was bad enough, but then we had the thing for those sky runes in Twilight Princess. It was boooorrriiiiiiiiinnngggg. And while I would have liked to have seen the Dominion Rod used more outside of the Temple of Time, this was not the way to do it. We just went from giant, hammer-wielding colossi to hopping owl statues. :shakefist:

And then Skyward Sword gave us the Song of the Hero...'nough said.

I really need to save up for a Wii U so I can get the Wind Waker remake.

And ugh, the Silent Realms or whatever they're called in Skyward Sword put me right off. I have yet to do the second one, so I'm just kind of wandering aimlessly.
