I wonder what the deal is with music playing such a big role in the Zelda franchise - it wasn't always the case.

Now let's hope that Miyamoto thinks it's the very best Zelda game made.

"What? 10/10? OoT got 10/10, I expected this game to go beyond that and get 11/10! That's it, no more Zelda EVER!"
But no I think we don't need to worry about that.

Pretty much every Zelda game has had an instrument of some sort, and all of the 3-D games have utilized it in a major role (Well, Twilight Princess had Howling Stones which were kind of silly, but that game is better left forgotten).

Why does everyone not like Twilight Princess? From what I've heard it's a really good game, better than some others at least.

I really liked the game, but the Twilight Areas make me groan.
Also, we kinda had this discussion a while ago, and Craw wrote out many reasons why he doesn't like it. So...it is in here somewhere.

Twilight Princess was actually the first time I had ever played a Zelda game when I got it with my Wii in early 2007. I got stuck pretty often, in retrospect mostly because I didn't have any knowledge of how puzzles in Zeldas should be tackled, and Twilight Princess seemed highly derivative of previous installments in that sense, bar a few occasions (which I usually had less problems with). I don't know what else to specifically critique about the game, but after beating it my overall feeling was that it was sort of bland and boring, I didn't really enjoy it all that much and that maybe Zelda wasn't my kind of franchise.
Then I bought Wind Waker from a friend and fell in love with that. None of the other Zelda games I've played since have left me disappointed (well, except maybe Phantom Hourglass, but that was still kinda fun)

TP seemed to lose the charm of the Zelda franchise in favor of pandering to the fanbase (Making the realistic Zelda that fans were "promised" for the Gamecube). It and MM are kind of the black sheep of the franchise (in the sense that they're different than what we usually get), only MM has a very large and devoted following for it's deviation from the typical Zelda formula.
Plus, it had horrendous pacing, and while Ganondorf was expected to be in there, his role seemed stupid, and Zant was demoted from awesome stoic villain to screaming religious lunatic.

I actually thought Zant's true reveal as looking batcrap insane was actually his charm.

I thought his batshit insanity was funny, but ultimately, I liked stoic Zant better as a villain than screaming Zant.

No way, he was much more threatening and he fit the mood of the game better before he went insane. I mean, can you really believe that batshit insane Zant is the same person as the Zant that tried to kill Midna with light? Much better as a serious villain than a flailing madman that thought Ganondorf was his God.
