They could always just
call it the Hylian Shield
after they take it
Unless it's actually called the Hylian Shield in this game?

Well, I could have been mistaken as I often am.
But in the Zeldapedia article for Skyward Sword, it refers to Hyrule as "the land below the clouds" with that phrase linking to the page for Hyrule. So maybe they just didn't refer to Hyrule by name and that confused me?
But I thought I read somewhere that Hyrule wasn't around yet, but again, I'm probably just wrong.

Then I wonder who the princess of Hyrule actually is? :O
Also, I hope that in SS you get to use the lyre a lot. One of the few things I didnt like about TP was that you couldnt do a lot of musical stuff, like you could in OoT and WW

I don't think Hyrule is actually a kingdom yet--so perhaps there is no 'princess' or other type of monarch in place. Or, if there was a king/queen of some sort, then something would probably have to happen for Zelda to become the princess...
I dunno. This is just mindless speculation on my part.
On a side note, I preordered the special edition of SS the other day! I can't wait for the release.

They've referred to Ghirahim as the "Demon Lord of Hyrule", but I've heard that's a mis-translation/them squishing the facts that he rules the land below the clouds and the land below the clouds is what will be Hyrule.
And I doubt it is named after the race, as opposed to the nation, since "Hylian" means "of Hyrule"
The Goddesses created the Hylians though, so if the Skyloftians are the Hylians that will someday found Hyrule, then wouldn't the Hylians in this case have to exist before the founding of Hyrule? The Skyloftians may just not call themselves Hylians until Hyrule is founded, but the word could still have existed back then (and with different meaning), eventually being adopted as the name of the race.
Also, could it be a placeholder name for the shield? There's nothing confirming that it'll be in the final product, is there?
I'm interested in what all of this means for the Creation of Hyrule myth... Maybe it's not as straightforward as we were led to believe all this time.

The first game of the Zelda series is Minish Cap. The link in that game is the first hero. He is the first one to wear a green hat with his green ensemble (because of the talking bird hat). This game possible is after the first one.

So because he has the traditional garb he's the first Link? I don't see how that works- you could also argue that because OOT Link wears the Kokiri garb, the Kokiri were the original creators of the green clothing and therefore OOT Link was the first Link.

No trust me, there was some huge background story about it being the first hero or something. Just gimme a second to look for it.
EDIT: In Minish Cap, the story tells of a big war in search of the triforce, in which the Minish created the picori sword and gave it to Gustav, a man garbed in green. Gustav wore a green tunic, but no hat. Link from minish cap was the first link to wear a green cap due that Elzo being turned into one. also at the end of the game, Elzo gives you your own green cap, meaning that this game's Link had to be the first hero.

It's theorized that Minish Cap is the first game in the time line for a few different reasons. One, it explains the origin of Link's hat. Two, it also explains how things get hidden in pots and grass.
And three, perhaps the most important thing, is that it explains the origin of the four sword and the magic powers of the Hylian Royal family. The Picori blade, which is reforged into the White Sword, becomes the Four Sword once Link gets all four elements from the temples. The Four Sword is used to seal Vaati away, and he is later revived in the actual Four Swords game.
Four Swords is often placed very early in the theorized timelines, which places Minish Cap near the very beginning. That's why I think it's the first, at least.
edit: There are two wars mentioned in OoT, if I'm not mistaken. One was the war for the Triforce that was also used in the backstory of Minish Cap, and the second one was the war in which Link lost his parents and was taken in by the Great Deku Tree.
The first war, the war of the Triforce, is what drove the Picori to bestow their blade and their lightforce on the people of Hyrule.

thing is, though, minish cap ain't gonna be the first once skyward sword comes out, because Hyrule is already a kingdom in Minish cap, and as has already been stated several times, the Kingdom of Hyrule is not yet the Kingdom of Hyrule in Skyward Sword

Well then Zelda shouldn't really exist at all because the first Zelda was technically in Zelda 2, where the 1st zelda was put in a deep sleep by an evil wizard. It was then that all other princesses would be named Zelda after the one that was cursed.

Possibly. The entire Zelda universe is one huge wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey ball because the creators of the series think of the gameplay first, and create the story around that.

Nobody knows exactly what the first game is
There is no canon timeline
