Hey guys, do you like playing on a server? Do you like joining clan matches? Do you like amusing proletariats in matches? Do you like playing with a community? Do you like watching the good people play to improve your skill? Do you like not playing seriously against non-serious opponents? Do you like not having to be stuck playing with non-serious opponents because they're off in the non-serious server?
Yeah?
Well guess what Modern Warfare 2 doesn't have! ALL OF THAT!
Basically, it doesn't use dedicated servers. At all. Instead, it uses an auto-matchup system only, based on rank. Which is an utterly utterly horrible idea! I mean, it works in L4D, because that's a four-player game that simply wouldn't work with regular servers, but in regular several-dozen-people matches, it absolutely ruins online play!

Basically, game servers. The only difference between it and, say, regular servers is that the regular server game closes as soon as the person who created the match leaves.Myk wrote:What does dedicated server mean?
Either way, it's much faster and is up 24/7, and often has extra proletariats or such.
Except it doesn't matter, because Modern Warfare 2 has neither of those things anyway! It instead relies on just having pure Player-to-Player connections! Which is like a regular server, only without any sort of admin abilities!
Especially so since CoD4 was renowned for it's multiplayer, rather than being an addition to the engine like with games such as Halo.Zink wrote:You know, the fact that the developers did something that stupid makes me wonder about the quality of the rest of the game.
VAC only works on the Source engine (well, that and a few outdated engines). It wouldn't work for MW2's engine (IW4).Bill Nye the Science Guy wrote:Ive heard theyre going to use VAC and Steam, even in retail copies
