Going back to the Star Fox characters, they might not be exactly clones but they are the ones with most similarities and seeing how they are three they appear quite often when you put the CPU in random, and it gets annoying.
Because, even if they do change slightly, it is ever so slighly, and they are the most alike characters (compared to Ganondorf-Captain Falcon, Ness-Lucas)

It gets especially annoying when you choose samus and then there are two wolfs and a falco against you.

Ness and Lucas are actually quite different. They have the same moves but you have to use them differently in order for the character to be effective (I think that can be said about most clones). I certainly like Lucas much more than Ness, mostly because Lucas can shit out huge amounts of damage in a small amount of time while Ness has to set up his opponent more with his smash attacks and his ability to control sections of the screen with his fire and flash.

You misinterpreted me.

I meant that the star-fox cast is really clonish compared to characters like Ness and Lucas or Ganondorf and Captain Falcon, who have similar things, but are, as you say, Really different and in order to be effective have to be used in a complete different manner.

I really like Lucas and think Ness is a horrible character while we are at it :V

Drown was using Ness-Lucas as an example of similar charatcer that still have less in common with one another than Falco and Fox.

EDIT: Oh whoops ninjad

But even then they're quite different. Sure some of their moves might even look like they're the exact same when used, but they all differ in knockback/damage, duration/speed and hitboxes et cetera. All these different properties lead into different effective strategies and indeed, all Star Fox characters have distinct playstyles.

Well, that's debatable... As a Lucas main I heartily accept that I'm playing as one of the absolute worst characters in the game, and I fight with what I can squeeze out his moveset. At least Ness fares somewhat better against parts of the rest of the cast, though I personally don't like playing as him quite as much, mostly because his recovery is so easily destroyed.

I think the only clone characters in Brawl are Link-Toon Link, Fox-Falco, and Captain Falcon-Ganondorf. Fox and Wolf are as different as Mario and Luigi, and no one calls the Mario Bros. clones any more.
please stop that right now

He becomes a lot worse when your opponents become good enough at shielding whatever you can throw at them. PK fire is nearly useless as anything besides a pressuring tool, and a lot of his moves have pitiful range. If you're the one who is being forced to approach your opponent, god help you. Your options include down aerial and neutral aerial. : D

Also lots of characters have something that completely shuts him down; the most extreme examples are Donkey Kong and Marth, who after a grab can basically just keep regrabbing him at a several frames' advantage, pummeling him to sufficient damage percentages and then finishing with any move of their choice, and Lucas simply cannot do anything to fight back.

He has other flaws too; including but not limited to his slow grab.

I like Wolf, but I don't really use him since all of my friends did. He can do some killer combos with his reflector and has some really quick smashes for such a slower character.
