They gave a reason in Japan that actually is detailed and makes sense, so I'm going to post this and then hypothesize. OK?

I think we know why the game was delayed. Yes, Sakurai took too long finishing the game. Because of this, they don't have enough time to press and ship the game for the 24th. In fact, there won't be as many copies as Nintendo wants available on the 31st. Yes, that's right. LIMITED QUANTITIES in the first shipment to stores. Also, 31st is LAUNCH DATE, not ship date. Nintendo has confirmed that the game will be shipped a few days prior to the 31st. The total number of copies at launched will be less than that of Mario Galaxy. I hope you guys listened to my advice last week and pre-ordered.

My guess is that it was delayed a whole month in America so that we could get WAY more copies on launch day. So this might be a good thing. I hope.
