Any part of the game, where after being able to jam through as fast as I want, I have to slow down.
This does not sit well with me. Especially in platformers.

The one with the poison water is pretty bullshit too…NitroSquirril wrote:just gonna drop my opinion here, but the "secret" levels of mario sunshine were a lot of the best parts of that game imo
except the pachinko one. that one sucks.
I hate when you're at the endgame of a game and you have to grind out a bunch of levels for the final boss/dungeon. This doesn't count if there are interesting side quests to do, like an optional dungeon or some "find the things to get the ultimate weapon in the places you've already been," unless of course these side quests are boring.

Fire Emblem: When a character activates a critical hit... on their second attack.
A more general "dreaded part": rescue missions. Like escort missions, but the NPC you have to save is far away from you, and is surrounded by enemies/danger, and it a complete idiot, aka the AI tries to fight more than it can take on.
Escort missions don't bother me much actually. Only if the NPC is an idiot or the controls are bad. I don't mind if the NPC is helpless, so long as they don't get into fights intentionally. But I know I'm in the minority there.

Dreaded isn't really the correct word for that, but Status ailment magic is bullshit.
You don't need it in most normal monster fights and in fights where they would be useful(like boss battles) the enemies are immune to them.

Somebody hasn't played a SMT game. Although those are rebuffs and I guess those are sorta different.
Health drain skills also kick all kinds of booty in Xenoblade Chronicles, and certain enemies in FFX died real quickly to poison.

Re: Dreaded parts in games.
The thing I hate about status ailments is, for the most part, they're either a very minor nuisance (sometimes made into a problem if an opponent has a "Auto kill anyone with X status"), or they're the most annoying thing ever (Confusion in Pokemon).
There's almost never really an effective balance, and if they're powerful, they'll invariably never hurt the opponent as much as they hurt you, so essentially, they're almost always useless to use unless the game forces you to use it as the weakness of a boss or something.

And FFX is really not the best thing to make a case about status ailments for. Not on bosses at least. At the halfway point you can be glad when you can blind someone but don't expect Insta-Death or anything fancy to work. And almost all the things on the monster farm are completely immune to everything.

I think you could poison Seymour Flux. And I more meant the occasional random encounter that had a lot of health.

-sees SMT talk-
OH GOD. Most extra bosses in Digital Devil Saga. Most of the bosses are packing Dekaja/Dekunda and will spam them. It so annoying to keep recasting buffs and debuffs.

This is exactly why I don't like the platforming segments in more recent Sonic games.
I hate them so much. It just breaks the composition so much. It's just like "Oh, you're enjoying just blazing through the level? Too bad, you have to slow down now."
I hope to god Sonic Adventure 3 goes back to being entirely 3D. That shit was amazing.

Status conditions were a ton of fun in Final Fantasy Tactics.

Re: Dreaded parts in games.
Actually the recent Sonic games have had very fast platforming, or in the case of Colors, didn't slow you down much as you weren't moving very fast. I'm talking more like in Mario 3 or something, where you can just jump through all the levels at top speed, and then get stuck on an auto-scroll level that breaks your previous flow.TerraChimaera wrote:This.Galaxy Man wrote:Any part of the game, where after being able to jam through as fast as I want, I have to slow down.

I really don't like the Leviathan mission in DMC3. It just isn't very fun.
Also the last bit of the Nevan fight can really drag on a lot.

Re: Dreaded parts in games.
Any time a game throws a boss at you with low Attack power and extremely high Defense(a.k.a. Hermie from Superstar Saga...OR THAT STUPID PIRAHNA BEAN. GEEZ I HATE THAT THING SO MUCH).
Just
why?
Why do I HAVE to spend 7+ minutes on ONE BOSS?
Why?
Man, I complain about Superstar Saga a lot, but I really do think it's a superb game. One of my favorites on the GBA.
