It was just a box. You can even acquire several different boxes. It's the man inside the box who counts.

I get that, but Snake doesn't really have anything that you could actually take from his corpse to strengthen you, cept maybe his bandanna and stealth camo, and even then it depends on who he decided to save.

Besides, Kratos had the chance to take something that would make him invisible, but he smashed it because for him that wouldn't be manly enough.
