Actually, no. The 2600 wasn't the first console, that was the Oddysey. And their crimes against gaming were the 5200 and the Jaguar, both made years later when they really should have known better.

Have you seen Youtube videos of the Sports Resort swordplay on YouTube? It's brutal, faceshots, legbreakers, just pure pain, I even saw one fall off a bridge!
