The discussions went on into Melvor Idle was soon signed to Jagex Partners, the RuneScape company's publishing arm OSRS Gold. Jagex offered Malcolm the development guidance and helped with a complete overhaul of the brand and assisted with the management of communities and localisation which transformed a game created by one person into something that is available in 13 various languages (so far).
The game was launched in the month of April with the Early Access version proved this formula was well-received by RPG gamers, having been downloaded over 600,000 times across Steam and both major apps for mobile devices. This far exceeded Malcolm's initial expectations when he began his journey. Naturally, he hoped his strategy would succeed but he didn't have an 'endgame that he was thinking of.
"Luckily the joy that I felt in those early months is still with me during the last few years of development, and being working with Jagex directly on this is an absolute dream come true," he says. "I would never have imagined that I would ever receive the support of the exact studio which inspired me in the first place.
Making the move from a hobby into a fan-based project was obviously terrifying However, when you look at where I've been, and the support I've received when I established Games by Malcs as an young and promising studio, it's definitely been the most favorable outcome."
Despite the close connection between Melvor Idle and RuneScape, and the direct involvement of Jagex in the game, the publisher decided to keep the game an original IP instead of to make it into an officially-licensed RuneScape spin-off. It was a acknowledgment that Malcolm had achieved when Jagex itself had failed.
"We considered the idea of creating an uninvolved RuneScape game a number of years ago in the form of RuneScape: Idle Adventures," Pfeiffer tells. "In Alpha, we stopped development to focus our efforts to the core RuneScape games.
We've always believed in that RuneScape's game has potential in the idle space cheap osrs accounts for sale, and Melvor Idle more than demonstrates that RuneScape can create a fantastic idle game. But Melvor Idle stands up on its own merits too, in addition to our desire to stay as true to the original vision of this game Brendan did when he first started creating it."
