There's a grrl gamer in my Chem class this semester-- she does the "casual" mention thing a lot, as in, "Yeah, I play games. You know, video games. I'm a gamer. A girl gamer." I didn't say anything but all I could think was "you're not special, there are more women than men in the world and that statistic has been reflected online and in gaming demographics for years now, aaaaaah." It's like one of those things where if you are one, it's not a big deal, and if you aren't, it's still not a big deal, but if someone feels compelled to mention it to feel cool they're probably from the second camp of people who haven't cottoned on yet to the whole "my grandma owns a 3DS" thing these days.
