I really dislike perfume of all kinds, but fruity is always better than blehchy.

Fruity is offensive. Perfumes are just like colognes or anything else; subtle is better. Anything vanilla is always good.

There was a girl in my Intro to Law class who smelled of Pez. The entire class was girls except for me so I never knew who it was. I really should have asked who it was and where I could get it.

It's hard to know what's good, since some perfume's smell drastically different after they dry. The one on the right for example: diesel green. It's really strong at first (almost unpleasant), but it softens up and is sort of a sweet cinnamon musk? I dunno, definitely a spice in there.[Insert Fail] wrote:I think the one area I need huge help in is perfumes. I don't really wear it, most I ever use is a body spray of cucumber melon. Most "adult" perfumes turn me off and irritate my nose. Is it bad to stick to fruitier scents?
Spoony is right about subtlety. Fruity as in sweet is okay, fruity as in sugary not so much. Sugary smells are kinda juvenile. Then again... judging by Omni's story... Sugary might be the way to go to get the D.

Natural fruity smells are always better than anything else. The ones that aren't just smell too...artificial.

I must be the only one who doesn't like perfumes, period.
Then again I'm a gf-less loser so no need to take my opinion seriously.

Well, if the ladies are doing it right then you might not be able to tell.

Good rule of thumb is that somebody shouldn't be able to smell your musk unless they're hugging you

But Spoony, I need people to know when I've entered the room.
But yeah, I've ridden the bus with a few people who put on way too much perfume. And the people who bathe in axe (instead of actually showering).
Their smell fills the entire bus in seconds. And it can give me as bad a headache as being next to a smoker.
So... don't do it. best rule of thumb is to apply small spritzes of it to the warm parts of your body, namely under arms, on neck, and on wrists. Wrists have the added effect of giving them a hint of smell when you go to shake hands.

No, you're not alone there. To me perfume stinks no matter the scent.Mete wrote:I must be the only one who doesn't like perfumes, period.

Do you also have to figure out what mixes well with your natural scent? I was told something about perfumes and colognes mixing with sweat and having to find something that complimented your body's natural scent.Dire wrote:It's hard to know what's good, since some perfume's smell drastically different after they dry. The "offensive" and "juvenile" comments are what concern me. The body spray I get is from Bath & Body Works and I don't feel like it's excessively fruity, just kind of sweet (cucumbers aren't horribly strong) but maybe I am just a terrible judge at everything and aaaaaaaaaa I do not know. I stay away from a lot of department store perfume sections because the scents are too strong for me so I haven't tried anything made out of say, ~sandalwood~ or what have you. (Vanilla seems like it might be nice, though.)Dire wrote:Spoony is right about subtlety. Fruity as in sweet is okay, fruity as in sugary not so much. Sugary smells are kinda juvenile. I haven't worried too much about my natural scent, that's what bathing is for.
It might be a problem for someone who sweats a lot perhaps?
If that cucumber smell is the smell I'm thinking of, then I'm guessing it's sort of light and refreshing? Elizabeth Arden Green Tea(on the left) is very light and clean smelling. It smells like mandarins or something citrusy. Makes me feel like I've just stepped out of the shower. Maybe that's kinda what your spray is like?
When I say juvenile, I mean scents like strawberry candy. Reminds me of teenage girls who have just started using body mist. Not 'bad' exactly. But I guess certain smells work better for certain ages? Roses and musk always make me think of old ladies, doesn't matter how nice the smell is.
To be honest the two 'doll' perfumes in my set are a little bit juvenile. The blonde is like coconuts and the brunette is definitely a candy smell.
If you go shopping for scents, go to a place where they have the spray cards to test the scent on. That way you can give them time to air out before sticking your nose in. That and as I said before, often the initial smell of the spray isn't the smell you'll be wearing through the day.
You could also ask the clerk for recommendations. (or people you know)

For the record, all she got was a guy in her class looking up and sniffing the air quickly for a few seconds before returning to his notes about Stare decisis.Dire wrote:Sugary smells are kinda juvenile. Then again... judging by Omni's story... Sugary might be the way to go to get the D.
So, you know, not exactly the steamy romance you were promised in Harlequin.

Well first you had to figure out which girl it was. Point is, the smell got your attention.
