Stay off of Tumblr. There are some nasty viruses going around there, including very sophisticated keyloggers. How do I know this? Simple deduction- I myself caught a keylogger. I dealt with it, yes, but it re-occurred... but only after I started visiting Tumblr again. I also have seen posts going around saying the same thing. Basically, until they catch and remove the threats, you're risking stolen bank accounts and stolen art, stolen... pretty much everything when you visit.
If you happen to have the keylogger or another virus or are a Tumblr junkie, scan your computer and delete the virus - It usually is a program called Spector Pro - (AVG 2012 is capable of this and is free if your current program isn't capable of removing it) and then change your passwords and wipe your history.
I know it's a little bit of a social faux-pas here to post an entire new thread, but I like you guys and I want to make sure you all see this.

Doesn't a computer usually ask permission before activating a program, and don't most Internet browsers ask you to give permission for them to download an .exe before they'll download it? It just seems... off.

I guess it's a good thing I've never been to Tumblr

Certain programs go around that, most keyloggers included. Facebook suffered the same thing a few years ago, I recall. It is weird, I will admit, but it happened to me...Nefarious Bear wrote:Doesn't a computer usually ask permission before activating a program, and don't most Internet browsers ask you to give permission for them to download an .exe before they'll download it? I'm just trying to help and make sure no one's identity gets stolen or anything. Tumblr is the only thing I can think of that caused it (I haven't been on porn sites or anything).

No, it's fine. We sometimes have thread dedicated to warnings about hackings, even though it happened more often in the Videogames section. It's good to let people know.Airigh wrote:I know it's a little bit of a social faux-pas here to post an entire new thread, but I like you guys and I want to make sure you all see this.

I knew it! Tumblr is nothing but an evil plot to take over the world's computers for use in a giant pyramid scheme to topple the free market and stand over the ashes as dictator of the WORLD!!! Everybody get your guns!

Do you think that I'll get a virus, even if I don't have a tumblr account, and I just go to bookmarked tumblrs that I've saved?
Also, on a somewhat related note, can someone give me a link to a free antivirus program? I'd Google it myself, but I trust you guys more.

Avast! is the best one I've had contact with.

Yes. I heard it's located directly on people's pages and connects to the dashboard that way.AngelicSongx wrote:Do you think that I'll get a virus, even if I don't have a tumblr account, and I just go to bookmarked tumblrs that I've saved?

Here you go. This is the one that was capable of removing the keylogger I picked up. It is also pretty well-rounded in general for a free program.

Malwarebytes and Spybot are removal tools, not antiviruses. I think an antivirus prevents you from getting it in the first place but also has ways to remove existing ones, but removal tools are just for after you've gotten a virus.

No Sol, Spyboy is antivirus. TeaTime.
Also to whoever was confused, if your computer account is the administrator then no the virus doesn't need permission to install itself on your computer because you already have that permission and it's going to hijack them. Only way to avoid that is add-ons that block scripts or make an admin account and stay on the non-admin one when getting on the Internet.

Stuff goes here later.
