Re: War of the Elements
I'm part of the adventure and I rarely actually read it.
It's cool with me if he wants to be a failed prodigy in my kingdom if it's cool with you Ablu. He'd post more then I would.

I'm guessing "energy" becomes "fucking magnets". Or is it "elements"?
EDIT: neither then. Man, this wordfilter makes for a fun read.
EDITDIT: Magick. Duh.

I wasn't exactly expecting you to read through every single post, but I was rather wondering what made you want to make your first post joining a roleplay that you haven't even read. But if you think you can update often, I have no quarrels.Omnicrone wrote:I absolutely understand reluctance on the grounds of my unknown-ness. I'm an uncertain element (heh, sorry), and I get that you have no idea how reliable I am. So there's that.
However, my riposte:
The entirety of this thread is 208 posts, much of which is in long (sometimes overly to the point of needing to understand the purpose of paragraph breaks), long narrative. This thread is like a novella. And not exactly the easiest-reading material (no offense, my writing is pretty crap, too*). Simply put, expecting me to read all of it seems unfair. On the other hand, I'm not completely ignoring it either. I'm trying to get through it. And I'm only asking for a brief summary, not a handholding session. I never said otherwise, so please don't assume laziness.
That being said, if you'd rather just not have me, I'll not press it.
(*not only that, I can't even form a coherent argument. I think I've even lost myself.)
Village in Cairns gets burned down, scholar Miji arrives to find the village burned. Someone arrests him on the spot because they suspect it was him, and take him to see the grand templar of Cairns. They argue, Marcus and his elder show up, they argue some more. The three of them escape from the castle, and go back to Magmasa. Miji goes to find an airship to Kudzu, hoping that they may intervene in the conflict.
Miji finds an airship to Kudzu, and they let him tag along for a low price. They turn out to be on a mission to kill a large beast that patrols the skies of Kudzu, destroying any airships hoping to fly over or into the country. The beast destroys the ship, and kills everyone but Miji and a few others, who descend into the forest below. They stumble around a bit and find the iron path, where they are met by the nature prodigy and a retinue of gaurds. The others were infected so they are I dunno killed or something, and Miji is taken to the capital to be interrogated.
Meanwhile, Marcus and the elder find that a Magmasan village has been destroyed by Cairns. Also, Alexander, the lightning prodigy, meets up with Marcus and the elder, and attempts to bring them back to the capital. He fails, and they steal his horse, then go to the Cairns capital anyway, to try to capture the grand templar. Marcus pretends he is the shadow prodigy, and that he is a vampire so he cannot show his face. This works somehow. Marcus however fails to capture the grand templar, and runs from the castle.
Meanwhile, the dark prodigy Grey enlists to travel to Cairns to stop the war. Garrett tags along for the ride, and they go to Cairns. At the site of the destroyed village, they find a guy who says creepy things. He leaves and they find evidence that the attack was by Altuanians. They make their way to the capital, but are attacked by Altuanians after like five minutes of traveling, and the evidence is stolen. They make their way to the capital anyway, and find Marcus still impersonating the dark prodigy. They take Marcus prisoner, and bring him along to be their butler or something.
Meanwhile, in Galevonia, a village was attacked by Daringloons. Rick, a resident of the village, goes to meet with the Wind prodigy, Hal. They go to see the queen or something. Also Karin the ice prodigy is in Galevonia for some reason but I dunno.

Re: War of the Elements
Wickedthanks to you, Ablu. Rolling up a mentor/hanger-on secondary character then. Galevonia seems like a reasonable place to meet up with the wind and ice prodigies, I suppose.
Name: Fabienn Deltemps
Element:
Age:37
Appearance:Two beady eyes hug a short runt of a nose give her the appearance of a ferret or weasel. Her gash of a mouth seems always sharply arced in either a satisfied smirk or invidious pout. Even in the hottest climes, she steps not a foot out the door without her enveloping fur coat. Only the richest in daringabear fur and a gift from on of her many admirers, she'd tell anyone who stole a glance. Her once-luxurious hair is still done up in traditional Dari tribe manner with the same tarnished bronze loop-clip sending her hair cascading across her head.
Personality: Obsessed with her lost status as the Daringaloo prodigy, even thirty years after the fact, Fabienn has structured all of her life around status. Inherently selfish, Fabienn will little part with anything once it's in her clutching grasp. Though she sports a long-nurtured enmity to all prodigies, those representing Daringloo, especially, she might be convinced to let her status-obsession override this to journey with them as a mentor.
Biography: Fabienn was one of three students taken on by the last elder, Master Gaurren, to determine the new prodigy. Most able manipulator of her small village she stood well alongside Agrick Khan and Desui Minril. However, in the end it was her young age (a juvenile 7 to the 14 of her compatriots) and the decided lack of her mobility with ice magick that lost her the much-regarded position of prodigy under Master Gaurren. Fabienn spent the remainder of the winter in the capital but when the spring lilies once again floated past on the estward windcurrent from Galevonia, she decided she would have no more of this frigid land and its people's icy hearts. Determined to find the source of those delicate snow-leafed beauties, she traveled to the land of the wind sorcerers.
Decades later, and she can be found as the rather eccentric-seeming owner of Snow-Laced Petal, a small respite and hospice for travelers amidst the poor Daringa quarter of Jeharine
Prodigy?: What might have been. However, Fabienn's powers at the time were of a rather one-trick pony sort. Years away from her home country haven't allowed her much time to expand, but what she can do, she does best.
Other: As the owner of the Snow-Laced Petal, she often speaks with adepts and mages from around the globe. Her Iced Lily tea has grown to well-repute among the people of Jeharine, and over the years her business has turned a tidy profit with a wide variety of patrons. As such, Fabienn has learned much of the ways of other cultures and, more interestingly, other elements. It is perhaps Fabienn who is best suited to teach the Prodigies once their elders have finished, provided she can put behind her past and present disdain for those who's gifts dare to surpass hers.

So she lost prodigy status to a fetus?Omnicrone wrote:Obsessed with her lost status as the Daringaloo prodigy, even twenty two years after the fact

Re: War of the Elements
Ummm no... she lost to your master, who I've given a first name (Agrick) and an age (45). Though that one sentence is a bit wrong, it should read "thirty years after the fact".Dragoon778 wrote:So she lost prodigy status to a fetus?Omnicrone wrote:Obsessed with her lost status as the Daringaloo prodigy, even twenty two years after the fact
Anyways, if you'd rather a different name/age I'd be fine with altering my character to reflect that.

Re: War of the Elements
Marcus squirmed against the shadowy tendrils binding him. "Okay, now I'm interested about this Altuanian thing...But first, could you please tell your friend to put me down?"
Garrett's eyes narrowed but his shadow uncoiled and retreated, dropping the Pyromancer to the ground. "I suppose I will further explain the situation as it currently stands...As you know, the Cairns village of Kanamira was attacked by Pyromancers not too long ago. The first suspects in the attack were you Magmasans. However, when we arrived in Kanamira we found evidence that points to the attackers being from the country to the Southeast, Altuania."
He folded his arms with a scowl. "The fact that we were attacked by Altuanians on our way to the capital of Cairns only solidifies our theory. But we can't get any other support without solid evidence."
He looked over at Greylin. "So, you want us to head back to Kanamira and then set a course for the port town we landed in?" He bit his lower lip in thought. "I can see your logic...there are probably still Altuanian spies hiding in Kanamira. But would they really bite the bait after they've recovered most of the evidence from us? They might not believe the rumors...I suppose there's no harm in trying, but..." Garrett gritted his teeth and let out a grunt of frustration. "I suppose we have no choice. But if we are heading back to the port town, I will not be entering--my face is probably well-known by now, if that stablemaster cared about this horse any. I suppose I will be the ambush waiting outside the city."
"This isn't going to work..." Garrett thought to himself. "They've overpowered us before, and even if we were the ones to ambush them this time, I doubt we'd be able to take six mancers--even with that Marcus kid tagging along. They might even bring more mancers this time." He bit his lip again, oblivious to the small trickle of blood that welled up. "We could die in a confrontation such as this...there's got to be another way to find Altuania's motives..."
He noticed Greylin and Marcus looking at him, and he returned their gaze with his own cool stare. "Well, shall we head back to Kanamira again? We should move out before the Altuanians decide to leave the region--though I doubt they will any time soon."

Re: War of the Elements
"Alright!" She clapped her hands. "Then we're all set. Marcus, if you try to run off again, we'll tie you up again. Deal?" Marcus nodded. "Good. At least you have some sense of self-preservation." She turned around, seemingly oblivious to Garrett's doubt. "Then it's back to Kanamira. You can ride with me, Marcus. Garrett already has a dumb animal to take care of." Garrett frowned, and Pips mewed.
"I believe he took offense to that," he pointed out. Grey laughed.
"Sorry, Pips."
Marcus opened his mouth to protest, but thought better and saddled up behind Grey.
"By the way, you owe us for those ropes."
"What!? You're the ones who tied me up!"
She laughed again, and urged her horse forward.
Garrett caught up with them, and for a short time, they were side by side. Or horse by horse. She placed a hand on his shoulder, and he looked at her.
"Relax, Garrett. I know what I'm doing. I wouldn't be alive right now if I charged headlong into things without being ready."
Garrett returned his gaze to the road in front of them. "I just can't help but feel that this is the wrong way to go about it...even if we claim to be ready for a confrontation, there's no telling how they'll react in this situation. We could be biting off more than we can chew here."
He seemed distant, as if he was only half-concentrating on the conversation.
Grey grinned at him.
"Don't worry, pretty boy, I'll protect you."
Marcus decided to speak up. "Well, if there is an ambush, I'm pretty good with a fireball." Grey put a finger in front of his lips, shushing him.
"Hush, kid. Mommy and daddy are talking."
Garrett scowled, clearly unhappy as always.
"If I wasn't terrified of your friend I would argue. Wait, you haven't even told me your names!"
"My name is Greylin, Grey to friends, and 'that bitch' to anyone else. Grumpy here is Garrett."
"I'm not a kid! I can show you, if you want!"
Grey made a face. "Do you have any idea how wrong--"
Marcus lobbed a fireball at the underbrush.
"Great, now every living thing in the vicinity will be alerted to our presence. You're a special one, kid." Garrett growled.
Marcus pouted, slouching down on the horse, and the Dark Prodigy turned back to Garrett.
"Anyway, as I was saying, I have my ways. You'll have to trust me on this."
Garrett sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Very well. I'll go along with this for now."
"Good, you're not being paid to doubt me!" She crossed her arms, then took notice of the tiny trickle of blood from his bottom lip to his chin. She reached out and wiped it off with one finger. "You've got something there."
Garrett recoiled slightly at her touch, looking a bit unsure and a bit more embarrassed. "Oh...right."
"You're paying him?" Marcus seemed more interesting in the cheddar. "So... he's a mercenary, then?"
"Not exactly," Grey replied. "More like I paid him and kept the swift hand of the law off of him, in return for his undying loyalty." She raised an eyebrow. "I'm joking about the last part, of course."
(and garrett sulked all the way to kanamira)

Re: War of the Elements
[[Note for Angel, Dragoon and Kierou: I have a couple different ideas for how you could collectively meet Fabienn. The most obvious is visiting the Snow-Laced Petal, perhaps for the house special, iced lily tea, which is relatively well-known among the people of Jehiran and responsible for most of the Petal's business. Or, if that doesn't stir your fancy, I can try my other idea. Either way, this post will set the stage:]]
Fabienn had, for once in a very long time, nothing to do but stare at the door and hope for guests. She simply couldn't believe how dead it was in the tea house.
The Snow-Laced Petal usually turned a brisk business in the summer months. The air was cool and misty and the atmosphere held the memories of beautiful eternal night under the endless light-prickled sky. Musicians played the slow throb of the heartbeat. The rhythmic score of the inbound waves. The ponderous stirring of the ice underfoot. To visit the Petal was to visit the old stories of Daringaloo legend, when the barrier of the horizon was obscured and salmon flew, gull swam and man lived as at peace with himself. The environment was enough to draw in a crowd during the heat of the summer months, but the real seller was the house special: iced lily tea. It was a dish that Fabienn had created to honour her trip across the waves on a single ice floe, guided solely by the drifting stream of spring lilies from the winds of Galevonia. It was the perfect drink to relax one's nerves and always served at the perfect frosty temperature. Fabienn made each personally, and to her most interesting guests, served them personally as well.
The Petal received many guests from far-away lands, who, upon arriving in Jehiran, where often counseled to visit it's 'crown jewel', the little tea house and hospice in the heart of the poor Daringa district. Visitors were rarely disappointed; Fabienn loved to have the world-weary patrons regale her with tales of their exploits and stories of their homeland. She always had an ear out for the rustlings of a good story. As such, it was a rare thing for her to be so unawares of local gossip as she was today. No word reached her this morning of the attack on Humidian by her countrymen; indeed very little entered the open door of the Petal that morning - business was at an unprecedented low. Hardly even the regulars had shown themselves, and to a head, they all kept to their respective corners and spoke nothing. The air was chilled with tension. Even the musicians suffered from it, playing off-notes and losing focus.
All Fabienn could do was sit behind the curtain to her brewing room, and stare through it to the door, hoping for news to cross the threshold and bring with it customers.
[[Also: I can't get skype just yet but will have it within the week. Until then, I can be reached through the thread or by forum PM.]]

"I know," Hal said. "It's odd, you would think she would do something, but...It's not in my place to question the queen, but it is my job to protect my country no matter what the government decides to do."Kierou wrote:"....No action?" Rick asked at length, once they were beyond the castle gates. He brushed his hair away from his left eye, the emerald orbs looking slightly confused. "Isn't it obvious we have people attacking us?"
They arrived at the parking area where Adam and Hal left their gliders. "Did you come here with a glider or a giant albatross, Mr. Flores?" Adam asked.

Re: War of the Elements
"No. I solidified the air and ran on it, like so." He said, and, without generating any wind at all, he started to gain altitude, standing perfectly normally, as if a platform were rising underneath his feet. "It's simple, if you know the science."

((We're actually leaving Jeharin now, and we were actually planning something in terms of story development once we get back to Hal's place, but once you get skype we can discuss it further.))[[Note for Angel, Dragoon and Kierou: I have a couple different ideas for how you could collectively meet Fabienn. "Solidified the air?" Hal asked. He had never heard of such a thing. Then again, he wasn't exactly the science type, and his ego would have been bruised had he not been as confident. "That's very interesting, perhaps you can teach me it sometime," he continued. "Hope you can keep up with us!" he said, strapping himself into the glider.

Back at Atmosfodar, a PANK-haired woman with striking green eyes strode up to the Mint estate. She was very annoyed, but her expression belied her feelings. She walked up to the call box, and after identifying herself, was allowed in through the gates. The young woman walked into the mansion. The door was unlocked, and she supposed that Hal would be there. He was going to get it this time.
"Harold!" She waited for a few seconds. No response. Then, again, "Harold! It's me, Helen! You said you were going to wait for me at the Prodigy's training ground! I swear if you're here, I'll 'practice' on your glass figurines!" She walked to the parlor, where a young woman with dark blue hair sat, a piece of ice at her hand, looking at Helen. Helen's tone of voice and expression changed after seeing her. "Oh, Karin! What a surprise to see you here! I don't suppose Hal is anywhere here fooling around, is he?"

"Easily." He said, smiling. He crouched down, looking firmly ahead.

Re: War of the Elements
"Okay boys, that's quite enough," Fabienn growled to her floundering musicians, having heard quite enough to set her nerves on edge. "Pack up and head out. We're done for today."
The last of her regulars had left hours ago. Fabienn had repositioned herself so she could stare out the door to the streets beyond, and still she saw no one. This was asinine.
Fabienn set herself about closing down the Petal; pouring out the last brew of spring lily tea and wiping down the few tables that had been used. Now she was alone in the darkened building and she drew her massive coat around herself tightly. She shivered.
What could be wrong, that her wonderful club had seen so few guests? Fabienn must take it upon herself to investigate. She took a deep breath, and stepped out the door into the broad daylight of midafternoon. Not a soul stirred in the streets of the Daringa district. The quiet was stifling.
