there is no wrong answer
Do you want to study the Homestuck in its natural environment?
Or are you one of those people that is proud for not having read it?

Re: Confessions
I kind of stopped reading it when the whole new set of kids and trolls were introduced and haven't gone back since. It's not that I hate the new set, it's mostly there were already too many fucking characters to keep track of and that just added even more.
Wouldn't be so bad if dead people stayed dead instead of popping up in dream bubbles for a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

Re: Confessions
i'm not sure how there are too many characters in a series that is basically as involved in world building as star wars.
it is bodaciously that kind of scale, it's one of the reasons why it's not really a web comic and more of a web thing

Saying that world-building excuses characters is a mortal story-telling sin.Galaxy Man wrote:i'm not sure how there are too many characters in a series that is basically as involved in world building as star wars.

Also Star Wars is pretty bland so not a good example. Even EU.

Re: Confessions
I don't really know. It's not a web comic, really, because a comic is more like a graphic novel kind of thing. Questionable Content is a comic, Gunnerkrigg Court is a comic. Homestuck is something else entirely, it's very much a thing designed around the internet and taking advantage of it.Spoony wrote:What does that even meanGalaxy Man wrote:it's one of the reasons why it's not really a web comic and more of a web thing
alright so you go off and find a series with a very heavily established world and less than ten charactersSaying that world-building excuses characters is a mortal story-telling sin.
go on, i'll wait

So, it's a thing that's designed around the internet, and it's also a comic. Almost like a comic that's on the web instead of in the papers?Galaxy Man wrote:I don't really know. Uh, off the top of my head? Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Roadside Picnic, Dandelion Wine, The Library of Babel - hell, you could make a case of that not really having any characters.Galaxy Man wrote:alright so you go off and find a series with a very heavily established world and less than ten characters

I mean, yeah, there's lots of different methods of storytelling sure, but just throwing more and more characters into something usually isn't a great idea.

Re: Confessions
I had a fast glance over the currently online people just now, and Operation Awesome was standing before my name, and I read that as "Awesome Tatzel"
I petition that this is a fitting name for me

Re: Confessions
Shotgunning more characters into a story is only detrimental when the shotgunned characters are then followed to watch them do a totally irrelevant thing. If you have it where they do wtuff with the centralized group, then it adds atmosphere. If they run off, and the camera follows...you might as well have a spinoff.Spoony wrote:So, it's a thing that's designed around the internet, and it's also a comic.
