Bethesda is really good at separating factions into "goody two shoes guys" and "completely horrible evil guys". There are some inbetweens sometimes but you can count on those two, always.

the stupid part of it is that the high king was really just waiting for ulfric to talk to him, and probably would have taken his side and led a completely unified skyrim against the thalmor

They're both giant dicks. Stormcloaks have good reason to be mad at the Empire, but at the same time Skyrim and the Empire had to be united to withstand the Thalmor, which is why I went Imperial.
Hey, did you know you can go neutral and have those old men on the mountain who teach shouts solve the entire ordeal and have both factions focused on killing dragons?
