I'm not talking about the trending. I'm saying that as long as there is technology there will have to be those who maintain it. And even if all it does require is basic computer knowledge, the degree is still required to even be considered for the position.

As I said before though, as long as there are people who refuse to learn the basic knowledge, then there will have to be people who fix their mess. That is true for all technology in all forms.

aha no
my dad has no such degree, and neither do any of his partners or staff.
In fact, my dad only hires people who lack degrees, so he dosen't have to worry about overqualified people.

Well no, but he does have the experience by, like you said, getting in before it even was a thing. I wish his view was shared by other employers but that's not the case around here. Associates minimum to break into this field because the people hiring for it are not IT people who understand that the capacity to learn is all that's needed for it.

the only thing you need is to pass the IT certification tests.
I work for my dad every once in a while, so I took a couple.
(also the Microsoft test is lame, you just pay them and they practically hand it to you)
But maybe I'm just a nerd who knows far too much about computers.

Budget cutbacks. Also, school building is going down in a lot of areas, which means schools are packing more and more kids into classrooms, and if each classroom already has a teacher...

Plus, the average school is progressively getting a younger teaching base, meaning it'll be awhile before those teachers retire and their positions become vacant.

It's not terrible everywhere in the US, but in many places (especially Texas) the market is turbulent, and job security for teachers without tenure or seniority is terrible.

I said the jobs around here. UCLA and that sort of thing. The people hiring want degrees.

However, I am aware of the certs and I intend to work my way through them before this semester is over, even if I have to do studying on my own. UCLA is desperate for IT people, so they may overlook the lack of a degree if I'm certified and am working towards one.

I am taking an A+: Computer Hardware course right now, and the teacher quoted a tech forum post where a guy said this:
"I have 4 techs working for me 2 do not have A+ Certification and 2 are A+ certified.
I have to say those without certification are much better, far more creative and faster at finishing the job.

I am going to be adding 2 more people soon at my newest location, I will not be seeking certified people anymore but looking for those who can actually do the job accurately, most efficiantly and with sales ablities and in turn make the company the most cheddar.

It does me no good to have certified people working for me who do not know how to address customers or even answer the phones."

Well shit. This is what we get with lawmakers who have no scientific knowledge or background making laws on what they think science is or should be.
