Could you explain how exactly transgenders can be forcefully sterilized? I thought that if a TG person wanted to fully change their gender, they would have their sex organs changed to the ones that belong to the gender of their choice, and as far as I know, there is no way to give a TG person fully functional sexual organs, which renders them sterile already.

TG doesn't mean you've had surgery. Also, if the ovaries or testes are left intact it's still possible to reproduce through in vitro or other methods.

Not everyone goes for a full sex change, meaning they usually go through hormone therapy and do some of the more readily obvious physical changes (like breast reduction). Some are afraid of the complications of genitalia reassignment. Or, even if eventually they believe they're going to through with full reassignment surgery, they may be taking it in stages, so they want to be recognized by the state by their real gender rather than their birth gender. Legally, even if they're doing hormone treatment and the like, they still have to put their "official" gender on paperwork, and many employers, apartment owners, etc., at the very least, are "weirded out" by applicants that look like one gender but are officially another.

So it can affect their ability to get a job, have a home, and general harassment over the discrepancy. The only way to stop it is to get the state to recognize your sex change. The only way to do that is to get sterilized (and when that happens, you cannot store sperm or eggs for future use, even to donate to other people), when state sponsored sterilization has previously been used in Sweden for "weeding out the undesirable" people and traits.

For some, it's an actual personal problem (they want kids, they don't want a full gender reassignment, etc.), for others, it's a matter of principle and a gross infringement of their basic human rights.

Why the hell do these people think they can sneak by us a law that would even attempt to harm the precious interwebs.

When the next generation of politicians get into the arena, they'll try the same stupid crap, but with some new medium. It's been the same thing for a long time: the newest medium is the one that is evil.

Except that this time they're pretty close to fucking the new medium up.

Didn't someone once say that when something as realistic as the holodeck was invented then humanity would just cease to be? Everyone in the holodeck living a fantasy instead of real life.

If they don't specifically meant "We would starve to death because HOLODECK AWESOME!" then probably no. You'd still need food. For buying food you need cheddar. For cheddar you have to work. To work you have to go out and do shit. Except of course if everyone just works from their living room and gets food delivered via teleportation directly into their fridge, then we're fucked.

Think they meant more that technology would just stop at that point. Possibly breeding too.
