Well this isn't looking good for the Internet. Though it might backfire tremendously and raise even more support for SOPA considering how many people use this service. A bit of info on how this is a glimpse of a future where SOPA passed could work.

I don't have a Google.com login. And if it's going to be locked behind something you need an account to see then that's not something I generally like when it comes to something like news that should be public. Found it in another place anyway.
Huh that's odd, I didn't have to log in.

Holy shit, they've extradited a UK college student, who LINKED to copyright infringement material on his site. EVERYONE EMPTY YOUR PHOTOBUCKETS AND IMAGESHACKS.

Yup, saw his speech this morning right when he announced it.

Made my day exponentially better.

Also, watching his speech... why do people think he's charismatic? Granted he's not Bush-level charisma, but I often hear people say that one of his "good" qualities is that he's a great speaker.

He's a bumbling idiot.

The problems I'm seeing here is that the politicians have no clue about the Internet while the people funding said politicians, unfortunately, know its profit potential. Easy to manipulate ignorant people into doing what they want.

Uh that guy was the creator and owner of TvShack. That's slightly more serious then linking stuff on a website for different purposes.

Although it's ridiculous that he's getting extradited to the States. The US needs to fucking learn that they can't police the world and that they don't own the internet. And the UK needs to stop being America's bitch.

Well, yes, but the point was, he didn't upload it or host it. And that's what I'm trying to figure out : how the hell they're getting away with extraditing him.

"I was forced to set up advertising because of the massive server fees,"
Nope he was the host. This is the kind of thing SOPA and PIPA targets. I think they're getting ahead of themselves and enforcing a bill that hasn't passed yet, really strange and fucked up.

Oh, I must have read that wrong. Thanks for pointing that part out, Syo. It doesn't change the absurdity of the situation much, but now I"ve got it straightened out.

Well, about the guy who owns TV Shack; The Pirate Bay doesn't hold the content itself, its users just provide links to Bit-torrents of the content. It's essentially the same thing. And with MegaUpload, did the sites administrators say that they tried to keep copyrighted stuff of of their site?

He hosted a popular website, which is why he had hosting fees so high. He didn't host the content.

He doesn't host the content, but he provided links to the content, which is exactly what the Pirate Bay does. Why are supporting him even though he's doing the same thing that the Pirate Bay does?

MegaUpload removes a lot of stuff when they find it.

And I"m not saying whether he was right or wrong to link to the copyright infringing material. The point is, he was taken out of his country for a completely unworthy charge.

I think if he pays for the serverspace he is responsible for the content. If it's the other way around webhosting companies are pretty much boned.
