The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
If all previous interviews with Gabe Newell are something to go by, then they are against SOPA. AFAIK they don't recognize piracy as a problem. It is a service problem. Piracy is easier than going to the store and getting something bogged down in DRM that won't work. Steam is just click and go in most cases.
Re: The Current Events Thread
Okay, this NDAA thing is starting to go a little over my head.
I think this is a bad thing? Or maybe it's not as bad as everyone's been saying? I don't know.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Where the government is now allowed to imprison and torture an American citizen without trial? I believe that's what I've heard about it. Parent's have been keeping up to date with it better then I have been.
Officials weren't allowed to do that unless they could get you out of the country I think. I'd like to read up more on it because that is immensely scary to me. Especially in America of all places for such a totalitarian move to be made.

I think we'll just have to hope Obama sticks to his words. What could happen if a new president is elected though?
Re: The Current Events Thread
It is very rare for a sitting president to lose when running for a second term. To the point that the ideal candidates of the other side are sitting out because if they lost that's it for them. They're waiting for the next one.Syobon wrote:I think we'll just have to hope Obama sticks to his words. What could happen if a new president is elected though?
This also means that the only people running are the president and a whole bunch of insane wackos.
Stuff goes here later.

What harm could come from imprisoning a hellinternet beast every night and making it hate humanity and what it stands for?
Then we can release it back into the wild.

So, because they don't have a high chance of winning they don't even try, which leads to them pretty sure not winning, which leads to them thinking they don't have a high chance of winning, which leads to them not even trying, which leads...Madican wrote:It is very rare for a sitting president to lose when running for a second term. Really smart.

Re: The Current Events Thread
No, they wait with trying until the president's second term finishes.
Re: The Current Events Thread
Exactly. They want an ideal shot because like I said, if anyone loses in a presidential election they're gone for good. Look at Al Gore. He had support and almost made it when running against George Bush, but then he vanished from the presidential circuit because no party supports the one who lost.

Re: The Current Events Thread
So they didn't let him in because they were afraid he'd get bored and leave?
Is this like, a common scenario? I mean have there been any studies showing a correlation, at least?
