The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
Okay that makes more sense, I was wondering why I'd never heard of that.
Good job on factual reporting there Daily Mail!

Re: The Current Events Thread
Russian students planned a protest against Putin, so he made up an important and completely unexpected Russian language examination for all students so they can't protest.

You have to admit, he's good at Putin protests to rest.

Universal abuses Youtube's copyright protection to shut down Megaupload's viral campaign.
Here is the video in question. (reuploaded by some spanish guy)

And that's exactly why I say that copyright law has to be completely erased and re-written from scratch.

I thought if somebody (or a corporation) falsely entered a copyright infringement notification then they can have legal action taken out against them?
So surely that means Universal can be sued over this?

Yeah, let's see someone pony up the cash to take on a multi-million dollar behemoth who can hire legions of the best lawyers.DoNotDelete wrote:I thought if somebody (or a corporation) falsely entered a copyright infringement notification then they can have legal action taken out against them?

Just because they can doesn't mean it's feasible to do so.

In a better world you could argue that no matter how good your lawyers are, if you so obviously and blatantly broke the law, they won't be able to help you.
I mean the UMG is written right there on the youtube page and I'm pretty sure the Megaupload guys have all the contracts with the artists who made the song. It's as if a burglar left his ID at the place he did the crime.
It probably won't happen but I'd really like to see Universal get their booty kicked in court for the false copyright claims.
