Also- in the last episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender Sozen's comet comes within the earth's atmosphere and causes the fire benders to gain enormous power. But if that comet came every 100 years, and given it's trajectory is like 1,000,000s of years old, wouldn't it have burned up in the atmosphere by then?

I need more specific numbers.

Does it specifically say MILLIONS of years old?
And if it just grazes the upper atmosphere, then it could have just been very very large when it first showed up (think 'small planetoid').
