hetalia exploded last year around fall, yes. the fanbase got HUGE and wanky like any other popular anime. unfortunately because of its subject matter there is a TON more srsbzns wanking going on that i like to have nothing to do with so i don't actively participate in the lj comm and other fan-places :I

this sounds elitist but i really miss when the fanbase mostly consisted of only a few people who actually could have mature discussions and debates about it instead of the shit they pump out these days. it became more about the smut than the actual history and humour, which is what drew me into the series in the first place.

i still would really like to just sit down and catch up on it one day though. both the anime and and the manga.
