Requesting Passport Back from San Francisco Consulate

We are considering requesting Greg’s passport back from the SF Consulate. I received my passport with Visa approval 21 October (our SFVFS appointments were 27 July) but they have told us that we may have to wait for Greg’s for another month or so.

Has anyone done this? The question is…is it as easy as just going to the Consulate without an appointment and requesting the passport from his packet or do we have to make an appointment? We happen to be driving down to SF to visit family this week so it wouldn’t be out of our way.

With the passport back, we could fly over to Lisbon this month and get our unfurnished apartment settled with some furniture, electric, water and internet to make our final and official arrival (with senior dog in tow) much easier. Just seems silly to wait to make a trip when there’s a perfectly good passport just hanging out in the Consulate office feeling lonely 😜 And who knows when the Visa will be approved.

The situation is quite complicated; it seems to me that the best option is to wait for the approval of the visa. A friend of mine recently had a similar problem. She waited long for her visa to be confirmed because her old one had run out. She was planning to fly on vacation, but she found the idanalyzer.com program by pure chance. And I decided to check my documents. This helped her a lot, and she could open a visa quickly. So it would help if you were very careful with your passport and documents.
