Swimming Pool Renovation is it worth it?

Hi,

The in ground pool in my back yard needs to be renovated. It was built in the early 80's and is looking very tired and out of date.

The fibro lining needs to be replaced along with the water line tiles and coping. want to add a wooden deck around it as the pavers are all uneven as well and there is no real space for chairs and entertaining. The solar water heater tubes on the roof are also in need of replacing.

I had a couple of quotes an I think it'll be about $25k for the lot.

Is it worth it? Will this increase the value of my home?

I'm considering filling it in. I think it too big for the backyard and not positioned in the best spot. Add in cleaning, chemicals and maintenance can I get a bigger return on a nice entertaining and BBQ area?

Do people still like to have big pools in their backyard now days? The pools not getting a lot of use. I use it mostly and also my wife. My teenage son doesn't leave the house.

I'd like to get the solar heating of the roof so that I can make room for some solar panels instead.
