How do you know that a greater being didn't encourage evolution?
Why does evolution disprove a higher power?

I don't. But it would be an illogical train of thought based on impulse.Decker wrote:How do you know that a greater being didn't encourage evolution?

It doesn't. But it does disprove every major religion in the world (except for I think Buddhism?).

yes, a theory does mean "this might be false". all of science may be false. theories are hypothesis that are observed to happen based on experiments.
nothing in that paragraph you quoted says scientific theory is fact.
evolution is a rational explanation for the evidence scientists have gathered, but it is not a fact.

Scientific theory =/= fact. They are called theories because they explain behaviors so well and so consistently that we have to assume that they are true. However, there is not way to actually 100% prove Evolution, Gravity and the like. If we could, they would be Laws.
The good thing, though, is that we can modify theories when new observations either disprove them or make them obsolete.

Not saying that I'm positive that is the truth of the matter. But it's something to think about. If homosexuality is genetic, that doesn't mean it would have worked it's way out of the gene pool, if it had other benefits.
I recall a study where it was shown that females in families that had homosexual males tended to have more children, which would imply that the "male gay gene" is also an increased fertility gene in women.Bill Nye the Science Guy wrote:also its not genetic factors that make you a homosexual, its environmental factors, if it was genetic you probably wouldnt have been born

Also this. I never picked this. You can't chose to be gay anymore than I could chose to be straight.Decker wrote:Bill's wrong because I'm gay and I never chose to be.Plasma wrote:And then into a ridiculous debate between Bill and Decker about whether homosexuality is a choice, only where both party's conterpoints are "you're wrong because I said so".
He's saying that gay people chose to be gay. I never picked :psyduck

I like evolution because it means everything on the planet is related if you go back far enough we all share a common ancestor which was the first cell so we're related to plants, dolphins, spiders and everything else it's so awesome lol you guys suck.
Do your research.
Bill, people are born with genetic problems their parents don't have all the time.Karilyn wrote:I recall a study where it was shown that females in families that had homosexual males tended to have more children, which would imply that the "male gay gene" is also an increased fertility gene in women.Bill Nye the Science Guy wrote:also its not genetic factors that make you a homosexual, its environmental factors, if it was genetic you probably wouldnt have been born

That too. The second born male thing (and it actually goes up with every child that is born, and is consistent through adoption and child displacement) from what I understand, has to do with the immune system of women.Avengifier wrote:Actually, I've heard that if you are the second born male of a family you have a much greater chance of being gay. I'm the only male in my family. :/
Think about it. The immune system is designed to fight things which are in the body that aren't, well, your body. Males are, ya know, not women, and are as unborn, are inside the woman's body. And every time an "invader" is in a person's body, they get better at fighting it.
It's the woman's self-defense system trying fight off the male in the body, getting better every time.
Of course, that's guesswork at best, and still doesn't apply to lesbians. Oh well, time will tell.
